Today is the day...

Well - change of plans. My doctor called me this morning and said he has been thinking a lot about my "situation" since he saw me yesterday. Given the fact that my last baby got stuck at the shoulders and I didn't have diabetes then...and that I'm almost ten years older and have some other risk factors this time...and the baby is already measuring 8 lbs as of yesterday...he is "strongly recommending" a c-section. On top of that, he said, if the lung maturity test comes back fine, then he wants to do it TODAY. He feels it's safer for me AND the baby to just go ahead and deliver. He said that, of course, it's my choice...but I would never forgive myself if I chose to go ahead and be induced and there was a problem. On top of that, he checked my cervix yesterday, and it's not even close to ready - so if I chose induction, it could be a long, dangerous process, and I could end up with a c-section anyway!

Soooo...fast forward two hours...the lung maturity test came back good. I'm schedule for a c-section at 5 p.m. TONIGHT. Ack! I'm scared to death. I've cried off and on for a couple of hours. This is NOT how I wanted things to go. I wanted to have another vaginal birth, just like with my other kids. But, then again, this pregnancy has been NOTHING like my other two. So I guess it stands to reason that this birth will be different, too. Anyway...I'm disappointed and really frightened...but I am definately looking forward to holding my baby boy tonight. I hope everything goes well.

I'm a little sad, knowing that this is the last day in my life I will be pregnant. I'm sitting here looking down at my belly and feeling a little melancholy. :::sigh::: Well...here goes...wish me luck, girls!

Good luck.. The doctor knows what is best and as long as the baby is healthy that is all that matters in the end even if you don't want a c-section.
