Hello and thanks to all for your responses. As a quick recap, I went for my first trimester screen Monday, 2/16. While the neck measurment seemed good (1.3) the baby measured small (11.0 weeks versus 12.3 weeks). Ironically, I had volunteered to come in for an utrasound the following day for a training session at my doctor's satellite office and once again, the baby measured small (11.3 versus 12.4). So, there's no question in terms of there being some sort of error in the u/s reading. Anyway, after a follow up with my doctor. He informed me that while all babies do grow at different rates generally the real differences in size occur 5 months and beyond - meaning babies should measure right about exact for their gestational age. Therefore, when we look at my baby being about 7-10 days behind, it's fairly significant even though it's only a few millimeters. The next thing I was informed of is that this may be an indicator of a chromosome abnormality and I was offered the option of additional testing. Overall, I wasn't left with a real good feeling. Basically, he made it sound like a problem is really a possibility. Even when I spoke with the nurse earlier in the day, she was quite morbid sounding. Here's what's even worse! Since I'm right at 13 weeks now, I can't have the CVS test. But, I'm too early (by 4 weeks or so) for the amnio. So, I have to wait for a month and then another week for the results to find out if there is a problem with my baby. This has been absolutley horrible! I pray everything is okay but now I just have to wait for what seems like an etermity. Has anyone had a baby measure small so early on and still go on to have a healthy/normal baby? Or has anyone had this experience and had problems? The doctor doesn't really give me any indication one way or another - I gues it's too early to tell. ANY information you can provide would be so helpful and appreciated. (Note: All other tests - bloodwork, etc have been normal...no other issues found with the u/s. Also note my 7 week u/s the baby was measuring 7 weeks.)
