All that stuff like No hotdogs, no lunch meats... I dont listen to that so much.As long as Im not drinking or smoking or eating uncooked foods (or unpasteurized) I think baby will be fine. Ceasar salad has raw egg in it is why they say not to have it, here and there isnt bad but try to stay away.
Thanks ladies for your responses and yes I read its due to the raw eggs that are used for the dressing but my gynae didnt say its not allowed just where its prepared (not in some sleazy cafe) so I guess feather's advise about moderation is apt as well. I am already alternating 1 cup of coffee each day and avoiding chocs and I was hoping to have caesar salad once in a while without any harm to the baby.
I have not been told not to eat ceasar salad and I have at least 1 a week, that I make at home from the salad mixes! I think as long as I make sure that it's properly refridgerated, it will be fine , but i will have to ask my doctor now! I do know about the lunchmeat thing and it is rare, but can have very bad side effects, so i have been avoiding it this pregnancy, unless i heat it up first! I did have it in previous pregnancies (I did'nt know it was bad) and was fine, but with the side effects from listeria I'm not taking any chances this time.
i believe it is the raw eggs and anchovies.
Some caesar dressing is made with raw eggs I believe and that is why it is a problem. But I was craving caesar salads in my first and now this pregnancy and I have it regularly.. The cold lunch meat is more concerning Deli meats which can have Listeria and make you sick. You would end up eating nothing if you listened to all the rules. Everything in moderation is the key.
Really? I've never heard the no cold lunch meat rule. Why is it bad?
I too had ceasar salad twice last week. The only thing I can imagine being wrong with it is the cold chicken. Just like the no cold lunch meat rule. I made sure mine was hot chicken before I ordered it.
Nope, I actually had one the other day. I can't imagine why it would be bad for pregnancy.
