Is it just me?

I get completely paranoid if it's been 30 minutes and I haven't felt my baby move. I'm pregnant with my first child, and this baby moves a lot, so I just get really worried when I don't feel movement for thirty minutes. I know he sleeps. I don't really know what his sleep pattern is just yet. How can I tell?

Does anyone know how often they sleep and for how long? I'm 28 weeks pregnant.

It's not unusual to worry. Especially with your 1st. I only worry if I notice it's been a couple hours. But it depends on what I'm doing too. If I'm moving a lot or I'm in a noisy environment, Liam seems to be very still. I barely felt him at all when I was at the wedding but on the drive home he made up for it. I can usually get him to kick if I poke him :)

I have been doing kick counts for a few weeks now. I worry if I've gone a few hours and haven't felt her. She is VERY active all the time I swear she never sleeps.

I do the kick counts twice a day. Morning and evening usually after breakfast and dinner.

I still worry when I don't feel the baby move enough and this is baby #4 for me! LOL she is pretty active and was'nt moving very much yesterday and it was making me nervous Heather is right if you don't feel any movement and are worried drink juice or something with sugar in it (soda, sweet teas, ect.) to help get the baby moving then lay on your left side (to increase blood flow and oxygen) and put your hands on your stomach 9sometimes you can feel it with your hands more than on the inside! also you can try shining a light (like a flashlight) directly on your stomach your baby can see it at this point and it will sometimes get them to move or kick at the light! Good luck and no it's not just because it's your first the worry never completely goes away when your pregnant!

Heather,

No I didn't know that. My next visit is on Wednesday of this week so my doc will probably talk to me about that then. But, I'll start doing it just for to check. I worry about him sooo much.

It's normal to worry... it's just your momma instincts.  Now is about the time your doc will recommend kick counts.  You may already know this, but if you notice you haven't felt him move for a while here is what you do:
Eat a little snack
Drink a glass of juice
Lay down with your hands on the belly
Count each movement you feel for an hour (roll, kick, hiccup, jolt any little movement)

You should feel 10 in one hour.  You may feel 10 in 10 minutes after the juice...then you can stop counting.  If you get to your hour and you haven't felt 10 do it again for another hour. If you don't feel 10 in one hour after the second hour call the doc or go go l&d. Do not wait 24 hours by 28 weeks you should feel the baby regular (half hour is fine you are right they do sleep).  You can pick a time you know he is active to do this exercise.  I do it every night when I lay down for bed.

You have no need to worry at all unless you haven't felt your baby move for 24 hours.  If you feel no movement after 24 hours, call your doctor - you will be probably be told to drink caffeine, switch positions, or other things to see if you can wake the baby.  They may also have you come in to check things out to make sure everything is okay.  But, honestly, there is absolutely no need to worry at all unless 24 hours has elapsed - and even then, there's no need to get panicky.  Babies tend to sleep a lot in utero.
