I use to work at a hospital, and my first baby had to stay at the hospital for 2 months because he came really early, so I got to know the staff good. the recieving blankets and onesies they are able to reuse, since they send them out to a hospital grade laundry service, but they are so use to people taking them it's really not a big deal, as far as the other stuff diapers, pacifiers, ointment, nose bulb ect. they are not allowed to reuse any of that stuff even if it has'nt been used, so they actually like you to take that stuff, so they don't have to throw it away! My baby shower is on the 26th (2 weeks from today) , so far i only have a few clothes and diapers that I have been given, this is my 4th baby, but we moved and got rid of everything, so I don't have really anything for my baby. I am planning on shopping after the baby shower, so I can see what I need!
LMAO! You girls are hilarious! I'm pretty sure they expect you to take all that stuff.
I stole the hospitals receiving blankets too. I also stole the diapers they left in the bassinet.. lol I stole everything, including the shirt and pacifier lol I'll do it again too with this baby.. lol :)
As far as receiving blankets go while you are at the hospital make sure you grab the ones that are in there. Everyone else does and I have quite a few from Fionn. Also the little wrap shirts that they put on the baby. They are great till the umbilical cord falls off.
I forgot about a mobile. I still need one of those too. I'd also like to get some decorations for the nursery, but don't know if I'm going to be able to afford it. We'll see. The BF just might have to buy some :)

I just called my insurance I have Medicare Molina and it will provide a medela hand pump or pay for a rental on a electric one for the first 2 months. I just have to pay a $100 deposit. I really want an electri one so I'll probably buy one since I plan on breastfeeding longer than 2 months.
Thanks for the tip on the possibility of insurance helping out with the breast pump cost! I'll check into that!
I had my shower this past weekend. I got duplicates of everything. I got 3 sets of monitors...it was crazy. A lot the stuff I didn't need because I will basically be living at the hospital and the ronald mcdonald house for the first 4 months that the baby is here because of my daughters treatments. I took back probably half of what I got which came out to a little over 200 dollars and I was able to get a travel swing to take to the hospital and I am going to get a travel bed for the ronald mcdonald house and then I only need smaller things like the breast pump, pads, cream, I suggest buying tucks and dermoplast spray for yourself...it was a life saver for me after I gave birth to my daughter, I also still need a few more burp cloths and wipes, I am also getting some breastflow first years bottles because the nipples operate like and are in the shape of a breast so that my mom can feed the baby when she gives me a break.
Overall I would just say only get the thing you necessarily need right now and for the first few months as the bigger things like high chairs and exersaucers and stuff can always be purchased later.
My shower is in July. After that we'll see what's left for us to get. So far we have lots of stuff our families have been getting for us. But we still need blankets, sheets, bedding sets, bottles etc..
devo55- I also got the freestlye. I've heard it's the best on the market. I was lucky that my insurance reimbursed me for the pump.
I think the main thing I still absolutely will need is a breast pump!
Have other folks already gotten these? If so, which kind did you get and why did you choose it?
My husband and I both want him to be able to feed our child at least once or twice a day - partially so I can get a bit more sleep, and partially so he'll get to connect with our baby that way. After I go back to work (part-time), I'll definitely need it!
I did some research on this last night, and I think I might go for a rather expensive one - the Medela Freestyle. It's small and relatively easy to tote around and travel with, but full-powered. I'd love to hear other opinions/suggestions, though!
Oh sorry Steph I was referring to your nursery pic =)
But, the message was for everyone...lol
Referring to your picture of your nursery with all of your stuff from your shower we started tackling mine last night. I have the pack and play up (which I am using in my room) and the bouncy chair assembled. Tonight we are doing the car seat/stroller... one maybe two things a night until it's done. :)
Here is what I just bought myself that was left on the registry... we got everything else at the shower including a highchair which we won't use for a while:
Crib mattress
An extra sheet to go with the bedding set (apparantly you have to change the sheets a lot so I made sure I got two mattress covers too)
Wipes
Nursing bras (2)
Nursing pads
Nipple cream
A few nusery decorations (lamp/mobile for swing)
Burp clothes and wash clothes
I still need, but my father in law is going to buy:
Swing
Some more receiving blankets (I only got 5 at the shower I was told you need more)
Bumbo chair (I just think they look so cute sitting in those)
I just had my shower this past weekend and got almost everything we need. I still need:
bouncy seat
baby monitors
newborn diapers
excersaucer (for when she is a little bigger)
a few more burp clothes
My shower is in July. I don't need much now so I shouldn't need anything after that. Now I just have to get my butt in gear and start putting baby furniture together.
For me pretty much everything! My baby shower is in 2 weeks and then I will go shopping.
I did however buy the swing on craigslist I couldn't pass up the great deal.
