How many ultrasounds are we suppose to have?!

I'm going to be 28 weeks tomorrow and I've only had two ultrasounds so far. I got one at 12 weeks and the second one at 19 weeks. The midwife told me that I didn't need another ultrasound but they haven't told me anything about my baby's development or measurements. How will they know that the baby is in delivering position or make sure everything is okay? All they tell me is that I'm over weight but never really mention anything about the baby. It's really frustrating me.

In Canada for an uncomplicated pregnancy you only get two. An early dating ultrasound and a 20 week anatomy scan. They only do other ones if medically necessary.

You don't have to have any ultrasounds. If you have one around 12 weeks and one around 20 weeks you should not get any more unless there is a specific health concern. Some say too many or too long scans can be harmful.

I am from Florida, USA and I have had 2 ultrasounds so far and I am told that I will be going thru another one around week 34. 1st ultrasound was done to confirm the pregnancy. 2nd was done to find out the gender and check the growth. And as far as I know, 3rd us is to check the growth and positioning before the delivery.  so a total of 3 if everything goes ok.

I'm 28 weeks and I get a sono twice a week when I go for my bpp. I think it's a bit much but they monitor my baby's growth, development, and breathing. I was worried when I wasn't able to see if he was growing right. But now I can see him all the time. Guess it depends on your Dr and your circumstances.

3 is in Belgium, yes:
12 weeks is to measure the neck thingie and look at the nose bone to check for down's syndrome.
20 weeks is anatomy scan, see everything is there and functioning right.
And at 30 weeks to see if the baby is growing right and his position.

I don't know where you're from, but I live in the U.S. in Illinois and at my doctors office, they only order a 20 week ultrasound unless you have complications or they need to measure baby again for some reason. Do they measure your uterus size and listen to the baby's heartbeat at every appointment? if not, I would ask about it the next time you go in

Normally they do 3 us, some (like my gyn) do one every month. But 3 is the advised amount, and they do so to measure different things during different stages of pregnancy. Here in Belgium you normally have to pay extra if you want more us.
They do probably listen to the baby's heartbeat and feel your belly every appointment? And they know your baby's position by feeling your belly by the end i think.

I don't know if you do, but you should be able to ask your ob any questions you have tho, and get an answer.
