birth announcements?

Hey August mommies-to-be. Is anyone planning on sending out birth announcements in the mail after their little one arrives? I don't do Facebook so I'm debating on mailing it an announcement after my baby comes. Don't must people just throw them away after a few weeks on being on the side of the fridge anyways? I know Groupon does deals for places like vistaprint where you could get a nice one made for cheap, but I'm still on the fence. Thoughts?

@Angelica- yes the pic people do good work, i was just there in march for a family photo session for my 'mother-in-law's' bday present. I do agree they're a little pricey... they wanted over $150 for a 16 x 20 canvas, so i just bought the image cd then went to groupon and found one for $30 for the Dame size canvas! Talk about price markup, sheesh!

@Momabear- That is a super cute idea! Did you keep the gender a secret? Even if not, that's still a funny announcement =) If I send one I was thinking of doing a play on words with the upcoming holiday... something along the lines of "labor day came early" since he/she will be born in august and labor day is the first week of September

I have the cutest idea for a birth announcement.   It's going to have a hole for ur finger to open the card and when u open it it's going to have a picture of my baby boy on the other side where ur finger opened the card and it's going to say it's a boy bc ur finger is going to be in place of his weebird.  He will be naked but there won't be no shot of his manhood just a hole for someone's finger.   They are sooo cute!

I'm getting mine done by the picture people, they showed me a lot of examples of their birth announcement cards and they do such great work. I think it's something nice to send out to everyone, even if they end up throwing it away. The picture people are a little more pricey, but their photos were so adorable and they were very helpful. Overall though, I think birth announcement cards are a great idea!
