Wait 2 weeks after unprotected sex because that is when you will have enough of the pregnancy hormone

Most drugstores or chemists will carry a home pregnancy test.  It is pretty simple to use, the instructions are clear.  If you cannot find one, your doctor could do a pregnancy test for you, but if it is a urine-based test, be sure to use first-morning urine so it is concentrated.

How irregular are your periods?  If they are very irregular (like weeks different each time), you could still be in the range to have ovulated around the 12th.   Since it has been 8 days since the unprotected sex, it's unfortunately a bit early to test, but also a bit early to worry, given that your periods are irregular. If you get to 14 days since the unprotected sex, then take a test.
