First of all "Glory be to god" and I am so very blessed to have a healthy baby girl growing inside of me! With that being said , I took the first trimester screen and everything looked good. The blood work and the nuchal fold ultrasound both looked great. Well at about 16 weeks I took the quad screen test and a few days later I received a call from the genetic counselor and she told me that my baby had a 1:120 chance for downs. I was devastated! Even though that's less than a 1% chance, I was terrified! (I was never told about false positives)So after a lot of calling and one very kind scheduling professional my husband and I were able to have a targeted ultrasound done the next day. My baby girl looked totally normal, no soft markers were found. This changed the ratio to 1:240, that less than 1/2 of 1% chance but I was still scared so my husband and I decided to take the Mat21 test bc there is no risk to the baby. It took ten days to receive the results. My baby girl is healthy with no chromosome abnormalities! The waiting was horrible. My blood pressure went up and I had to be put on medication! My pressure has been fine so I know that it was up from the stress of waiting on the results! Truth is that the Quad screen is just that a screen not a diagnosis. And I personally would not take a screening test again,I would skip straight to the mat21test(a diagnostic test) I hope this helps someone. Bc I looked online and there were women that had 1:2 ratios and still had a baby born without the condition. In my opinion that screening test needs to be improved and the genetic counselors need additional result delivery training!
