Bleeding at 5 weeks.

I am 5 weeks today and last night when I went to the toilet I noticed blood when I wiped, bright red, it looked like the start of a period. I assumed it meant I was having a miscarriage so I put a pad on. Woke up this morning and no sign of blood, haven't had any cramping. My boobs also seem sore again (last night they seemed to stop being sensitive). I'm confused and frightened. There are no female drs on at my clinic until Wednesday and I don't want to go to a male idk.

Thanks for the replies guys! Good to hear that the baby still might be OK! I'm seeing the Dr on Wednesday (since I'm not in any pain or anything and haven't had any more bleeding I figured its not an emergency) so I will have to wait to find out if its OK or not.

Oops!  Just read that again (sorry it's early).  Call your doctor, one instance of spotting may not be anything to be concerned about.  Unfortunately if it is a miscarriage there is nothing that can be done to stop it at this point. I miscarried at 5 weeks in 2010 and remember how frightening and frustrating it was to just wait for it to happen.  Hoping all the best for you and baby!

What color is the bleeding?  How much is there?  Did you have sex before it started? Trace amounts of dark blood are probably just old tissue being shed and not of much concern.  Sex can also cause a little (red) spotting.  I'd talk to your doctor, but a little bleeding does not always indicate a problem.  Good luck!

I had the same thing at 6 weeks and was totally scared! I also passed a clot! I called the doctor right away and they told me as long as I am not bleeding heavily and there is no cramping just to monitor it through the night. They had me go in to have an ultrasound and everything was fine I saw the heartbeat. I would just check with your doctor to make sure. It never hurts to ask, and keep positive thoughts! Hope everything turns out well!

If there is no cramping/pain with the bleeding it might not be a miscarriage. But I would get to a doctors office as soon as possible just to be sure. I can understand wanting to see a female physician, but if it happens again and there's any pain involved, you shouldn't wait.
