How long can u be dilated before baby comes?

I'm a FTM & am 36.2 weeks. My due date is 12/31. On Tues, my doc told me I was a half cm dilated. She gave me a range of 2-3 weeks before baby may actually come. Just wondering how long most of you were dilated before you had baby. Also, did anyone try having intercourse as a way of inducing the baby? If so, did it work right away or take multiple other methods to get you to dilate/induce quicker? I'm anticipating my baby girl to come, but I feel like I'm not quite ready yet until I finish nesting. My husband & I want to have sex, but I'm afraid that it will make her come sooner than expected. I'm having mixed feelings as I want her to come, but not quite yet since I'm still 26 days away from my due date & have so much more to prepare for her to arrive. Please advise. Thanx!

I have been 2cm dilated since 34 weeks I'm now almost  36 weeks .  And I have had sex everyday and I'm still the same big and pregnant and only 2cm dilated still . So I guess it just depends on ur body if it's ready for labor or not . I'm being in induced on the 15th of baby doesn't come on his own in the next week .
