SUPPORT NEEDED

So today we found out that our baby boy has a heart defect named coarctation of the aorta. This means that he will have to have open heart surgery within a few days of being born. He will go straight to the NICU and we won't be able to take him home until he is at least a month old. I'm glad that we found it before he was born to be able to take care of it right away. If anyone has gone through this or knows someone who has that can give me advice on how to get through this it would be very appreciated.

My little sister was diagnosed with this as well. My step mom had to have a C-section at a special hospital in anticipation for the soon heart surgery. Well the day she was born they said she was doing fine and they'd put it off a day, then another day, then a week. After 2 weeks or less they decided it wasn't effecting anything at all and they could wait until she was a little older and stronger (with monthly checkups for awhile to make sure) well, at each appointment they said the same thing, eventually they said she will have to have it done as an adult. Now she is 3 yrs old & it fixed itself and will NEVER have to undergo the surgery! I don't mean to give you hope that may be false, this is just our family's experience. I will pray that your little one has a little miracle like my sister did too. Other than that, in the beginning when we still thought it was bad, the doctors were SO calm about it and so reassuring, I mean of course it is TERRIFYING for such a small, sweet baby to undergo such a thing but it made me feel better that it seemed very routine and very common, and kind of easily fixed instead of being an ongoing problem. Good luck with your journey and no matter what your baby will be okay(:
