My baby dropped at 30 weeks, right when it flipped to vertex (headdown)...the U/S at 30 showed it's head right down low, couldn't really see it's head at all....
Lastnight I was in L&D and was contracting every 2 minutes when I left, but they weren't as strong as when I went in...they didn't keep my because my cervix wasn't changing fast. Only a finger tip after having contractions all day long...
I'm still contracting, but nothing diffrent as last night. They want me back there when my contractions are the type you CAN'T BREATHE THROUGH, my water leaks or gushes, or I bleed heavier then spotting.
So it all depends on what they want and recommend~just call, tell them what you're feeling and they'll tell you what to do after that...
Good luck~
my baby's head is been engaged for more than a week now and i have been having contraction since 31 weeks am 35 and 4 days now ..cervix wasnt dialated last time so apparantly nothing was happening ...they have to check your cervix for dilation thats how they determine if you are close or not..you also have to watch your mucus plug or any change is your discharge..
sorry about the typos...computer went nuts, so did my fingers
When the baby "drops" and the head is engaged, suddenly you notice that you can breathe better and notice less constipation and sour stomach. The baby seems to be more forward, taking the pressure off the intestines.
Babies can drop earlier in the pregnancy and the pregnancy continues until the due date. Some babies I have heard, do not drop until the woman actually goes into labor.
I am surprised that they did not do an internal exam on you since you were complaining about having contractions. Each doctor is different.
In my own experience having babies, my first baby dropped early, at around eight months; but went on to be delivered a couple of weeks after my due date. With my second baby, she dropped just a week or so before her birth and came on time.
I did not lose my mucouscervixmucous plug with either baby, until I was in labor. Also in each pregnancy, my water never broke until I was ready to deliver, with both times the doctor stripping the membranes. Even though I had lots of contractions in those last few weeks of pregnancy, I really knew I was in true labor when I lost my mucous plug, because it was tinged with bright red blood. This can happen to women, weeks before they actually deliver, so it's different with every woman and practically every pregnancy.
I hope that your stomach and intestines feel better, now that the baby has dropped into birth position. You probably will notice that you are urinating more than usual now.
At your next doctor visit they will probably do an internal exam to see if there has been any softening of the cervix and dilatation.
Hang in there...it's almost time for that precious one...Rest up, you'll need it.
Best Wishes,
Heather

Did they say whether you were any centimeters dilated or effaced? That would give you some indication...
