Eating too much or too little??

I know everyone is different but I was just curious on what everyones daily food consumption consisted of? As I was eating today, I thought about what I had eaten over the past few weeks and was just wondering what everyone else was eating, how much and how often. Just wanted to compare with other Feb mommies! Kinda like a Preggo food diary! Who wants to share??

I feel like I've gained the "normal" amount so far, 3-5 lbs.   I am almost 16 weeks along now and definetly have a little baby belly.  I love it!  :)
I try to eat 2-4 pieces of fruit everyday, as that is a huge craving, and has tons of nutrients in it.  Like, I make my own yogurt and have ground up flax and a cut up banana and a little honey on it in the am.  Or I will have homemade whole grain bread with a poached egg (and I have a glass of milk usually in the morning too).
For lunch, I usually just eat leftovers from the night before, which can be chili with cheese, chicken and potatoes with gravy, etc.  I eat a medium sized lunch.  At supper, it's about the same as for lunch, except I try to sneak in more veggies (something I have not been liking-depressing, b/c I looooved vegtables before getting pregnant, and am now just able to stomach them again).  I eat a couple of junk foods a day, which I consider to be a cup or two of hot cocoa, a couple cookies, one or two fast food items, etc.  I know for a fact that I need to cut back on this stuff, but it's so good tasting!  :P  I need to just cut down to one thing a day and be happy with it.  and make sure it's not really bad either.
For snacks I like very low sugar cereals, cheese, fruit!  :) , olives and glasses of skim milk.  I also have lots and lots of water each day, which I will never fall out of love with :)
Processed sugar has been giving me horrible heartburn though-
anyone else feel like that too?

I have always been very active with running and lifting weights and such, and the first trimester really took a lot of that abundant energy out of me.  :P  But now I am back to going on walks, and I even jogged (very slowly) the length of a block last week!  (it sounds so lame-I used to run 5ks!)  haha.  :)
The main differences now that I am pregnant with eating, is that I don't eat large amounts at a time, and I have 4-6 little to medium meals, depending on how hungry I am that day.
I am not a small person either, Supersally.  I feel you there!!!- 5'5" and 182 lbs pre-pregnancy.
My appetite has dropped also this second trimester, instead of increasing.  But I feel that baby is getting all baby needs, and hopefully I will be able to resume jogging a bit longer with baby in a jogging stroller after the waiting period (isn't it 2 weeks recovery if you have a vag birth?)  I also plan to breast feed, which actually requires more calories than growing the baby.  I think a 2,000 calorie diet is something I can do ;)  easier than the 1,600 eating plan I tried to stick to before falling pregnant.

Sorry this is so long!!!!  And thank you for reading it!!!  :D
I just feel like I have a lot to say on this subject, as I wonder if I am doing ok by baby also.  I feel good about the way I look, so I must be doing something right.  :)

Thanks girls, that makes me feel better. Im really taking comfort in the fact that my little girl is big, even looking at her on the ultrasound i was thinking, wow she has some meat on her already  yay! =)

It was so cute she has a little chubby torso already, thats why they bumped me up, cause her little arms are still skinny but her midsection is further along and her face too. That excites me cause I know she is getting what she needs =)  and like i said if i dont start packing on the pounds i'll start eating more whether i like it or not!

Wow it sounds like you ladies are eating nice and healthy!! For me, I dont feel like I am "eating for two". My doctor said you dont even really eat for two you just increase your calorie intake by a couple hundred say 300 or 400 a day and that'll do. But I feel like I eat the same amounts as I did pre-pregnancy, except sometimes I'll eat chips or a cookie (something I would rarely eat before) I exercised a ton and was in peak shape before getting Pregnant. So I feel like I don't eat more, I just eat a bit of what I actually want to now! But I still eat healthy, with every meal I try and make sure there is something nutritional with it. Like if I have toast with Peanut Butter (which is good for you in itself) but I try and add something else nutritional like an apple or an avacado. Or with dinner I always try and sneak in as much veggies as possible. I'm a big snacker too...I eat small meals throughout the day and I always make sure when I snack there is something beneficial that I'm eating. I just worry sometimes that I'm eating too often...even though I know I'm eating just about the same as I did before..but I'm definitely not exercising like I did before!
I prolly eat 3 small meals a day and than dinner which is bigger but I usually only eat a small portion of it. I know everyone is different but sometimes we can't help but worry whats enough and whats not enough! Like I've said...I've gained 7 pounds in 20 weeks but I was underweight to begin with so my doctor is pushing me to gain 4-5 pounds each visit! (I see her once a month right now) So I dunno I guess everyone is different!

tfernandez-it's not a matter of how much you should have gained by now because I was reading up on that and it says an "average" woman should gain between 3-4 pounds her first trimester and 1 pound every week after that. But what is average ya know?? I just say eat when your hungry..eat healthy and trust me, if you're not gaining enough weight your doctor will be the first to let you know!! :)

I was so shocked (well actually kinda expected it, LOL) when I gained 6 lbs between week 12 and week 16.  That's a total of 7lbs so far.  I thought that was too much for being early on, but the doctor said not to worry about it.  He said that sometimes you may feel like you ate more than usual and got bigger, yet you don't gain anything and other times you will eat the same stuff as before and you gain weight.  My OBGYN was also my mother's OBGYN when she had my sister.  Well with me she gained 50lbs (she is a tiny women to begin with and then that gain was a lot) and so with my sister she wanted to make sure that didn't happen again - well my doctor had put her on a healthy diet and she still gained 50lbs.  So the doctor said sometimes you will gain the weight no matter what.  I usually eat a bowl or 2 of cereal in the morning, then for lunch I'll eat the South Beach Wraps (not for dieting purposes, but they really fill me up and are good) with yogurt or chips, then for dinner I'll eat a usual pre-preggo dinner or another bowl of cereal.  I started eating more nuts and veggies since I know I haven't been eating enough.  My problem is since week 15 I started feeling way better so I can eat more and that's all I want to do sometimes!

I am 18 weeks and have only gained 5 pounds so far although I am not complaining!! I wasn't tiny when I started that is for sure and since I eat when I am hungry I know the babies are doing just fine. I usually have a bowl of ceral and some juice in the am, then a granola bar to ward of nasuea until lunch which is usually some soup or a sandwich and the most of the time I can make it to dinner without another snack. I am glad my mom likes to make healthy meals so I know I am giving them the best options at that time. Oh and TONS of water even though I am getting sick of it =-). Occassionally we order out and last night actually went out to eat and it was a nice change. I would say my appetite is the same as pre-pregnancy most of the time, every once in awhile I find I am starving but then what usually ends up happening is halfway through I get full or heartburn and that pretty much sums it up. I would say too that the heartburn has been pretty preventitve to any tendency to snack all day - I would never have any relief!!

Hi,

your baby will be fine.  As long as you're eating healthy and when you're hungry. No problem.

We're all different and what is normal weight gain for us all is different. As long as you're feeling fine and baby is growing as she should (and it sounds like she is) you've nothing to worry about.

I know I am eating too much now.  I've been splurging the last couple of weeks and it shows.  However, I am now just back to my prepregnancy weight, having lost about 12lbs from being sick/surgery at the end of my 3rd month.  I am going to try not to gain too much more weight (I am not a small lady - currently at 168 lbs and 5'5"), by eating healthy but exercising every day .... as recommended by my dr and also to help control my gestational diabetes.

Well thats why i do feel worried, everyone is saying they feel hungry all the time and i dont! I feel about the same as pre-pregnancy (hunger wise) and so im not eating a whole lot. I hoping she is getting everything she need and is does make sense that if i werent getting enough my body would tell me to eat but at the same i worry what if she needs food and im not giving it to her!  I never let myself go hungry like i used to (before getting pregnant). Like when youre hungry but you wait for dh or you take your time to finish something else and put it off, i would NEVER do that now, i eat as soon as i feel hungry and until i am borderline stuffed because i really want her to get big enough!

gina- that makes me feel better about the woman who had 7 pound baby but only gained 11! I've just been getting a little scared thinking, omg im almost halfway through i shuld have gained like 10-15 pounds by now right??? ahh, i think i'll just stick to eating whever i feel hungry and if i dont start gaining a little more steadily i'll attempt to eat when im not feeling hungry (although that tends to make me feel sick i'll force it down if i have to!)

I'll do anything to have a good sized healthy baby, a nice big baby girl =)

It doesn't matter if you aren't eating much, as long as you eat often. If you don't have anything in your stomach, then your baby has no fuel to grow.

Do not go longer than 4 hrs without eating, and eat whenever you feel hungry. Also try to make sure you have a balanced diet. If you do this, then there is no need to worry about how much weight you are putting on. The baby will take all it needs..

Well I wouldn't worry about the actual "weight" you put on...my husbands cousin only put on 11 pounds her entire pregnancy (I kid you not!) she was a health and exercise freak! And her baby girl weighed over 7 pounds! My cousin put on over 70 pounds and her little girl was barely 6 pounds. So either way your baby will be healthy as long as your eating and eating good.
I'm almost 20 weeks and I've only put on 7 pounds so I'm right there with you...in thinking I haven't put on any weight..yet my belly seems to slowly be growing. But my doctor says my weight progression is perfect, so everyone is different!

WOW I can't believe you go 4 hours without eating! haha. I am hungry every 2 hours! I've gone 3 the longest! But I'm a snacker, I eat small meals which is why I eat more often. I've been told thats good to do! And looking back at your post...after you eat the chili you go until 11 without eating? OMG, how do you do it!? I am seriously hungry hungry every 2 or 3 hours! I'm not a doctor so I can't tell you to eat more or less, but the way I eat, I'd say you need to eat more! :)

I'm a little worried about this actually because I fear I'm not eating enough. I'm 18 weeks but I've only gained like 3-5 pounds. I'm definitely showing and everything, and the baby is a good size, they called her a big baby actually. But should I be gaining like way more than this? Also, I have two small meals and one medium sized meal a day, is that enough? For example...

when i wake up- a can of ravioli (chef boyardee im always craving them)

3-4 hours later- a bowl of something, usually chili with cheddar on it and some chips to scoop it up yum!

2 hours later- a piece of fruit, usually a whole lemon.

11 pm- whatever DH brings home for me. Turkey bacon wheat wrap or some mexican food.

Does that sound like enough? Idk I dont feel like I'm eating enough, but I always eat when I'm hungry. Should i try to eat more?

I try to eat a fruit shake with spinich every day I don't really like candy, but i love salty things this time around. I haven't been been overly hungry lately I was at first but not anymore. you should only consume 300 cal. extra that is as little as a 8 oz glass of milk so I try not to over eat! try is the key word.
