no i thank you answered all my questions that i had floating around in my head, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! DH was more worried then i but it started getting me worried. either way i wont be doing that form of exercise again, just so i dont take the risk of being hit by a ball!!
i feel better!! thank you so much!!
Hi,
I've done a lot of research on exercise and pregnancy.
There is NO risk to the baby from moderate to intense exercise as long as your pregnancy is normal (ie. not high risk). There have been studies done that show only benefit (better placenta growth, stronger and normal sized though leaner baby, easier delivery, less preganncy complications, faster maternal recovery, etc.). The best results were seen in women who exercised at moderate to high intensity at least 3 times a week right up to the time of their delivery.
Getting hot during exercise is also not a risk (assuming you build up gradually if you were not fit to begin with), for the baby. This is different from having a high fever or getting stuck in a sauna for too long, which are potentially risky.
Women who are pregnant have higher heart rates than women who are not. They recommend that you go by perceived exertion (how hard you feel you are working) rather than heart rate.
Newest guidelines from researchers in the area are that moderate to high intensity exercise is fine for pregnant women. Following are key considerations.
- Whatever you were doing before pregnancy you can continue doing during (but avoid contact sports and may need to adjust activities as pregnancy progresses if balance is affected).
- If you start exercising during pregnancy this is also fine, but build up intensity and duration gradually (same as you would for starting a regular programme). -
If you have bleeding then exercise should be reduced. Other high risk factors may mean exercise should be limited, but this is exception rather than rule.
- Make sure you are well hydrated before during and after activities.
- Eat healthy snack before and after activities.
- Workout in well ventilated area & not overheated area (getting physically hot from the activity is ok).
- Do proper warmup and cool down.
This is just summary. I am quite passionate about exercise and despite everything refuse to stop being active. (I am 1 month past exp-lap & appendectomy, & have gestational diabetes & hypothyroid - I beleive exercise is critical to my mental and physical health during this pregnancy - and after).
I'll also post this in a separate thread. If you want more info please ask and I'll see what I can get for you.

I can give you the research book references if you are interested.
yea, that was our only concern with going, was being hit but i wasnt so, thats not the worry now, hes worried now that maybe i moved too much or something to mess with the baby. i think im ok but with everyone getting mad at me i felt stupid!!
I typed the word as*sess, how annoying. :P
Don't go batting or do ANYTHING that has a ball that can hit you! No contact sports and no volleyball, softball batting or basket ball!~ That's what my OB has told me at any rate. If something WERE to hit you, you could not properly ***** the damage until you go to the dr, and who wants to wait that long? :) (unless you go to the ER).
I'm sure you and baby are fine though. :)
thats what i was thinking!! 14? but yes i think you are right! i dont know if it stayed below that but if i started to get worn out, i stopped and passed my turn. my hubby is really nervous, he kept asking if i was ok, if i was ok to be there and so on, he watches my every move like a hawk!! so yesterday when i said my back was killing me he was like, thats it right, nothing else hurts? nothing else does, i feel fine, feel good, i got some exercise!! afterwards, we went and got some water and just relaxed, it was really nice. we went bowling too but i didnt really try and had the lightest ball i could get (an 8) and only played a 47 game HAHAHA....so i really just kicked back and did nothing. ate a pretzel and cheese!!
I believe its 140, thats what my doc told me.
