Pins and needles while pregnant

Hey all

I was just wandering if anyone else is getting pins and needles in their feet.  Every night I put my feet up like you are suppose to and after a minute I start getting pins and needles in my left foot more than in my right.  On Sunday I was walking around the mall and had to have a rest because my head was spinning and I was light headed.  I think I didn't eat enough on Sunday and that is why I was light headed but the pins and needles are a mystery.

Is anyone else experiencing this????  I can't book an appointment with my midwife till next week so I thought your input might be helpful.

Thanks heaps

Even just rubbing the skin will bring blood to that area which can help w pain and numb/tingling it is an annoying feeling but the upside is that it means baby has made themselves comfortable lol

Hey

Thanks for that.  I am glad I didn't faint so it is nice to hear that it is normal.  Naynay I know how you are feeling.  My husband has rubbed my back the last two nights around my pelvis and that seemed to have eased it.

My hubby, myself and my two kiddies are going on a two night stay to the beach so hopefully that will make me feel a bit more refreshed lol

I totally relate--im 31 weeks today, and the pins and needles/buzzing feeling/numbness have been going on for a couple weeks now. its very annoying and a bit worrying. ive been to a few drs (including my ob) and all are saying its a cross between nerves, baby's position, weight gain and anxiety. i get it on random spots all over my body, mainly on my hands and top of my feet though.

Parenting Q&A
Q:"I feel dizzy when I get up from a sitting position. Yesterday, I almost fainted when shopping. Is this a normal problem during pregnancy or is this something harmful to my baby?"

A:Dizziness is a frequent complaint during pregnancy. It can be related to the blood supply needed for baby's rapidly growing circulatory system, or it can be caused as the uterus expands and puts pressure on the blood vessels. To prevent dizziness when you rise quickly from a sitting position,  rise slowly. You may also feel dizzy because of low blood sugar if you wait too long to eat between meals or if you are in a closed, overheated area. Fainting, however, is less common. If you have fainted, do contact your doctor and describe the incident in detail, what you were doing at the time, and how long it lasted. Fainting is a symptom of conditions affecting you and your baby that your doctor would be concerned about.

I dont know if this is the same thing but I get charlie horses in my feet and legs at night. Most of the time they are so bad that it wakes me up and I have to have DF rub them for me until it goes away. It hurts so bad that sometimes it brings me to tears. I have noticed that my hands fall asleep very easily now that i'm preggo. I dont think that you have much to worry about since most of us are experiencing similar symptoms but if your still concerned maybe you could give your midwife and call and just see what she thinks. If you do, let us know what you hear :)

Ok thanks that's good.  I called my mum because of course mum's know everything and she reckons baby is on one of my nerves causing the pins and needles.  I also had a look online and it said that if you are clacium deficient it could cause the same thing.  I have started taking my vitamins again and I think they have made me feel better.

It is so crap over here I don't get to see the midwife till 28 weeks.  The last time I saw the midwife was 19 weeks because it is my third with the same partner.  I just think that is terrible!!!!  I have seen my doctor which was lucky because if I didn't see my doctor I wouldn't have known I had to do the glucose test.  Oh well I get to see the midwife sometime next week so I better give them a call to arrange it :)

Pins and needles is very common at this point in pregnancy. All of the swelling and pressure makes it happen. For once not those damn hormones lol!  When you put your feet up I'd see if how high you put your feet up makes a difference. Sometimes if you put them up too high the blood flow slows down.

I also get the pins and needles feeling. It can also be from baby putting pressure on your spine. As for the spinning head, I also experience that sometimes mostly when i realize I havent eaten enough or had enough water. But remember too that we need lots of oxygen but don't feel like we can inhale all the way so make sure you are taking slow deep breaths :)

Feel well!
