Sleep Problems!

So, anyone else having a lot of trouble sleeping at night?

In the beginning I was sleeping so early in the night, and all through the night, besides those bathroom trips. Now, I can't fall fully asleep until like 3 or 4 am. I sleep for maybe 30 min or so at a time before that and I just toss and turn, and nothings comfy, everything feels tight and i wear big baggy t shirts to bed. i feel trapped or something. Arrghh! PLUS we have a king size bed and its my hubby and my 15 lb pup we sleep with so...my body is just going haywire on me! :(. Soooo frustrating!! I usually try to lay there and watch more tv or read on the computer until I get to the point where I think i can sleep.

What you are experiencing is VERY common at this point in pregnancy. Our estrogen levels have hit an all time high which is a stimulant. So our bodies are ready to go go go even when its bedtime. As for the feeling trapped in your pajamas, I found the best solution is big huge nightshirts and no pajama pants. I also surround myself with pillows which helps too.

I hope you get some rest!

I agree with sunworshipper when I go to bed I wear a nightie that is too big for me with no pants - I hate feeling suffocated as well.  It also takes me forever to fall asleep because I just can't get comfortable and unfortunately it's only going to get worse :).  I sleep with a pillow between my legs and kind of on my tummy but on my side if that makes sense, only prob is when I do that baby kicks and kicks.

Have you tried sleeping by yourself?  With my other pregnancies I would kick my husband out of bed and he would sleep on the couch or on my kids beds.  For some reason I sleep better taking up the WHOLE bed lol

It is very common and I do remember it in my second pregnancy .... But with this one I have no prob at all lol I lay down a 5 seconds later I'm sleeping.... It's crazy cause before I got preg I had a lot of problems sleeping.... I think my two kids help make me tierd or something.... Maybe talk to your dr about melitonin.... I have no idea if it would be safe but it is natural ..., so maybe.... I give it to my autistic son to help him sleep

Benadryl is safe to use to help with sleep. Obviously double check with your OB before taking anything

I sleep until 4am get up to pee and then...with this lovely time change my sons have been getting up anywhere between 4:30am (this morning) and 5:30am.  I can't fall back asleep because I know they're going to wake up soon and my brain will not shut off! I start thinking about names, banking, dreams, things I need to get done and can't while on modified bedrest and I'm seriously going nuts!  My husband is driving me crazy too but I just posted about that.  Loving the challenges of pregnancy right now!

I am not having any problems getting to sleep its just waking up a hundred times that gets to me. I sleep with a body pillow and every time that I roll over (which is very frequently) I have to readjust so its just as comfy as the other side. Plus, I am getting up 2-3 times a night to pee. Sometimes I try and hold it because im too tired to get out of bed but when I do that I cant fall back asleep with a full bladder anyways.

I agree with the other person who said to try and sleep alone. There are some nights that I will sleep downstairs by myself and will get the best sleep. But it sure is lonely at night by yourself.

I havnt tried sleeping alone yet. i looove sleeping with my husband, but I might try to kick him out. Interesting to know how everyone else is doing with the things im experiencing. I even have one of those huge candy cane pillows. Im still trying to decide if it helps or if its TOO much. because i start to feel so hot in it.

i was having problems with being restless, just couldn't get my legs into a comfortable position. I upped my magnesium with a supplement as it is a muscle relaxant which stopped the muscles in my legs from "firing off" and now I'm sleeping like a baby again, and it's perfectly safe in pregnancy.

Missinglink-- this is probably what i will have to do because even having to pee will not affect how i sleep i can hold it all night if i need to (even though its not the best thing to do) but im too tired to get up... and the only thing that makes me wake up and not be able to fall back asleep is my legs falling asleep and that tingling is soooo annoying... i dont know what to do...

Make sure you speak with your OB before starting any suppliment or medication :). Also heads up magnesium CAN give you the runs if you take enough of it.

I fall asleep quickly but am waking up around 3 every morning for the past two weeks and then sleeping for an hour before waking up again, so it's interrupted sleep until the alarm goes off.  Everyone tells me it's only going to get worse, so I just try to get comfortable, nap, and get in every minute I can.

Trh I've been getting the waking up throughout the night too recently but also hard to fall asleep at night I would kill for one restful full night of sleep that doesn't involve trying to fall asleep for hours first :P. Partly I know it's pain bc of my spine and party well bc I'm a big huge hippo and I've never had so much junk in my trunk

Yeah, I've been using the body pillow too which is great.   It kind of allows me to sleep on my stomach but in a obscure way.  The only problem is that I wake up so much through the night.  If I move, the baby wakes up and starts kicking or I have to pee again.  And literally, it's just a dribble.   I'd kill for a solid 8 hours of sleep, just 1 night.  It's so hard getting up at 6:00 am when every night, it feels like you only just fell asleep.

I think when I was sick it made things a lot worse too, the past 2 nights (maybe I just got lucky :P) Ive been sleeping better, not great, but better. Ive only woke up maybe 2 or 3 times before 7 am. Lets hope I get to keep my lucky streak! Lol.
