How to deal with Toxic MOLD?!?!

I am only 23 weeks pregnant with my 4th child. I am currently still working full time and planned to be at my job for atleast 2 more months. However, my job has been having a mold problem for over 3 years and only tore out one wall and replaced the sheetrock in one area but mold is in 4 other areas where I work. It is so bad you can see and smell the mold strongly in particular rooms that they just shut the doors and said no one to go in those rooms. I told my doctor today and he wants me to leave the job and will give me a note to be on disability now. The problem is that I can not afford to leave work just yet. I was reading mold can be very dangerous but do you think it is dangerous enough for me to leave my job immediately? I refuse to be in the area that has the mold but scared I am breathing in toxic black mold. Has anyone every experienced anything like this and what are the odds that it can harm the baby?

I know how you feel. My husband is currently just a stay at home dad but works here and there with his dad. While I'm working full time housekeeping being a mother. Its tough cause now were on to our second child due Feb. But I gotta have faith that everything will turn out ok. I hope it does. Hopefully our men get a full time job soon.

I am actually still at work because they started tearing down one of the walls with the mold and put me at the other side to work. This is hard because I still need to work and rest because my pregnancy is very hard because I am on my feet all day long doing physical work. My husband only works 2 days a week and can't find a full time job. I would normally being leaving for maternity leave mid January but don't think I can make it that long. I get frustrated because I don't think my husband takes me leaving seriously and hasn't been looking for a job like he should, he sometimes goes week without putting an application in or goes online to see what openings are available. NO pregnant woman should have to deal with these types of issues going into her 3rd trimester.

Both ladies are correct, Mold is really dangerous especially to the baby. and you are breathing in the odor. It can have effects on you later on.

My sister in law works for OSHA(occupational satety& health administration). she said you should file a complaint, she said pregnant women are at a greater risk.

Its a hard decision, because you like many of us cant afford to leave work to early. so like the other ladies mention.Talk to HR

I agree with Mareski, there's got to be something HR can do aboue moving you, or putting you on short term disability or something

If your doctor is giving you orders to leave your work now, I would be very concerned. It's a health hazard and could possibly cause pre-term labor. I would talk with your HR about transferring to another location. I believe you have rights in the workplace against being subject to this sort of thing, especially during pregnancy.

You may want to get a second opinion from another doctor to hear their thoughts and in case your work would want more proof.
