Epidural?

Hey everyone I'm pregnant with my first child and me and my husband are both very nervous but excited... I just wondered if anybody has some advice? I'm scared about getting an epidural! How bad is the pain? I've watched videos and the hollow needle just looks so painful! Please comment and let me know thanks :)

I had one with my first, and plan on doing it again. They put a local anesthetic at the injection point so you don't feel it.
But everyone had different reactions, I loved mine and had no bad side effects however I've heard stories (never first hand though) of lasting side effects. Like chronic back pain type things. So, I'd suggest meeting  your doctor and the hospital's anesthesiologist too get a feel for it. Ask all the questions you want about the procedure, any reported side effects, etc.

I had one with my first baby. I didn't feel a thing all I could think about was the contractions.

I had an epidural with my first and plan to get one this time around as well. It only hurts a little while the needle is being inserted, nothing like contraction pain though,  and then you will feel nothing! I lasted till I was 8 cm dilated before getting one and I was so happy I did.

Have you considering attempting natural? The epideral is going to be nothing compared to your contractions.

It all depends on your anesthesiologist. Mine knew what he was doing and gave me the right amount for my body. Trust me you will not feel any pain from the needle while you are having contractions lol contractions are painful! Birth was quick and I felt the pushing. I still felt all sensation in my legs. I walked afterwards and went to the bathroom. No pain and no side effects. it all depends on the doctor and your body.

Everyone reacts differently. From going through natural contractions/delivery at 15 week miscarriage- drugs it is for me. My friend said it wasn't painful at all and she had no reactions to it. My other friend had a leg that took a bit to come back around but nothing that would prevent her from doing it again.

My sister had an epidural with her first child and said she's never getting one again. Her legs stayed numb for 2 days after giving birth to her son.
