is it possible to not be able to dilate even with induction?

So ill be 41 weeks tomorrow and on thursday i have my dr appointment to schedule for induction for that weekend since i obviously cant go to 42 weeks. Thing that worries me is that im not dilating, no matter what i dont dilate. I was at 1cm last week and then got a membrane sweep so then last night i had bad contractions and big chunks of my mucus plug fell and also had water licking down. I went to the hospital and got sent home bc i was at 1cm and my cervix was soo high up that they had such a hard time reaching, i wasn't progressing at all. Doctor said to walk a lot and be active but i have been doing that so much for at least two months. Specially this month i hardly even sit down, i even started doing yoga and all sorts of things to try to dilate me. I have all the symptoms of going in to labor, contractions some water fluid, some plug, so much pwlvic pressure, and even today i was hardly being able to walk but i just wont dilate or progress. My question is has anyone had an induction that just didnt work and after hours you had to get a c section? Im scared of just not dilating even inducing me and then having to go through a c section.

Tinuha that's great they let you go past your due date... I know being induced is inevitable sometimes, especially with gd! Glad it all worked out and congratulations!

That's great... if you do get induced you know you did everything in your power to avoid it. Its not the worst thing! Good luck I'll wait to hear what happens : )

i guess  i should have mentioned i was diagnosed with gestesinal diabetes. normally they twnd to induce before the due date but i had very well managed form with diet and exercise alone so no insulin...and they were thinking of letting  me go up to 41 weeks until they did the biophysical ultrasound and freaked about babies size (i again that should not be a reason to induce but with the added risks with gd and still birth etc my midwife at that point decided not to wait. id ask for a detailed ultrasound before they induce you if all is well why not hold of alittle  if you have a low risk pregnancy. i was on oxytocin drip and honestly contractions weren't bad..the whole process just took forever to start so by the time i was induce i was already up for 12 hours then in active labour over night. i took the epidural because i was literally falling alseep  between contractions which  were only like a minute  apart. i stalled for reasons outside of being induced. baby was never in any distress, just not settling into my pelvis enough to help my cervix dilate. again like  mentioned before just educate yourself on everything. i just got super upset once they made the call because i had no idea what a c section entailed. im sure you'll do great whatever the outcome. and you'll meet your little  one very soon!

I am sorry I should mention I was induced due to suspected macrosomia (they were scared baby was over 9 lbs) when in fact she was 10 6oz. I got her out so fast and I did tear buy you heal and I promise it goes back the way it was! I have never pead myself from laughing or sneezing like I used to hear women say before I had kids lol

I, personally, will refuse induction until it's actually medically necessary. Induction is not recomended for suspected large babies as it is not shown to improve the few associated risks and is shown to increase other risks. I was induced, against my wishes and intuition, with my first and although she is healthy, it was a miserable experience and the epidural didn't work. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Pitocin is risky for a baby, the associated longer and stronger contractions cause longer time that baby is without oxygen. I hope you go into labor on your own! A lot can change in just a day, some women go from 0cm to delivered in just a day. My midwives recomend castor oil (they don't start these recomendations until 42 weeks) and a friend did it and it worked for her. Good luck and happy delivery!

ftm had my little boy on February 7th!! was induced at 40wks 2days because baby was estimated at 10.5lbs.(was actually born weighing 9 lbs 1 oz) so my midwife didn't want to risk another week of packing on the pounds. anyway i was sitting at 3 cm for about a week before the induction and had several sweeps. i was bummed about an induction because of all the increase risks of intervention with it. but i also knew an 11lb baby would have been tough to deliver vaginal regardless. so i was induced progressed to about 6cm drug free but eventually took the epidural since i was coming up to 30 hours of no sleep. once the epidural kicked in a slept and had hoped id wake at 10cm and be rested to push. sadly my little man was just in a terrible position and not putting enough pressure on my cervix and i stalled at 7cm for like 6 hours before dr decided a csection was our best bet. disappointed obviously but once you have that baby you dont care how it got in your arms. i was so ready for a natural vaginal delivery but that just wasn't in the cards. i was originally in the care of a midwife but once transferred to an ob they called the shots. and i think he made the right decision. even if i had dilated in the position he was in i would have probably had to push for hours and torn rather badly. im healing well. and like i said its all worth it for baby. just be more prepared then i was...i was so convinced i wasn't having a csection. educate yourself on all the possible outcomes and hope for the best. its very likely that you will dilate and have a vaginal delivery. goood luck mama.
