When to start buying baby stuff

I'm 16 weeks and two days and this is my first baby. Although we don't know the sex yet, we plan on finding out at our next sono at 20 weeks. We have a nursery theme picked out (which will be good for either a girl or a boy) and what we would like in the room as far as furniture,  but I am reluctant to get anything for the nursery. My mom has already purchased some gender neutral yellow onesies and bibs. This is my first after an 8 week miscarriage. When is it an appropriate time to start getting things together especially the big ticket items such as furniture or even a rocking chair?

Some people choose to wait until after 20 weeks in hopes that they know the gender first. But it really doesn't matter when you start buying. If you want to start buying now so you won't be shelling out a huge chunk of money within a tight time frame, then start! Whatever you're reasoning or choice, there is no right or wrong time. :)
