Help!! Braxton Hicks and Colostrum

Hiya Guys, I'm 21W5D pregnant with twins. Over the last 12 weeks I have felt this odd sensation in my belly where it goes all tight and I can feel pressure. This was occasional but in the last 4 weeks has been on averae once a day. My belly goes all hard. I assumed this is both twins moving at the same time and my belly is hard just where I know their heads are.

This happened alot last night and I had a mild ache (where you usually get period pains) and then this got a bit worse to a uncomfortable pain. (no where near unbearable in anyway so I would still say it was mild). These sensations were every couple of minutes and then I must have fallen asleep. The babies were very active at the time and I could feel lots of kicks.

Does this sound like Braxton Hicks??? I would have assumed that BH or contractions 2-3 minutes apart would be very very painful. I just don't want to be dense and not notice that something is wrong because I know that preterm labour with twins is a problem.

Also, last night I had wet jammies and it was my bb's leaking. This was on whichever boob I was laid on. I know this is called colostrum but is it normal to have it this early?? I think having this at the same time as the sensations is what has panicked me. Also I leaked this morning when I was eating my breakfast.

I found this on a website, not really helpful, but may make you feel better about preterm labor:

Preterm labor may sometimes be stopped with a combination of medication and rest. More often, birth can be delayed just long enough to transport the woman to a hospital with a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and to give her a drug to help speed up her baby’s lung development.

I just tried that circle thingy and they started kicking, they were not impressed LOL. I don't think they were BH now I read your description :) Thanks but i will still sip water when it happens. I've mailed you back.

I think u r doing a great job with ur weight gain Kirsty. and ur  good with supplements too. Don't stress out a lot.. i did mail u how diff BH and the babies moving close together feel. With BH u'll know cos ur entire tummy will tighten up . the first one I had stopped me on my tracks. 9 in 20 mins is not good.. but again.. not sure if they were BH indeed. Try sipping cold water when that happens..also try to move ur waist around like making circles. My friend (she delivered a few months back) told me that it helps the babies move from their current position. I still have to try it .. but if they are in a position that hardens ur tummy.. u can try changing their position and see it helps.

Just typed out a message and then lost it Doh!!

Still not sure whether BH or baby movement. I had about 9 in 20 minutes Kash whcih is what stressed me out because Mum said she thought the sensation sounded like contractions and to just watch they weren't regular. Also I get the same sensation on one side only sometimes.....And it ALWAYS happens right after lunch. But when I get the sensations now I move position or get up and walk because that's what my book said to do.

Do you guys get erotic dreams, I have had about five since I got pregnant and I alwys wake up having an orgasm. I think this is what caused the spasms/baby movement and the leaky boobs. I didn't get the spasms yesterday or leaky boobs so I was much more chilled out.

I don't need to count fetal kicks my babies are super active. Eevry couple of days they have a rest all day and I don't feel them but I have the doppler for reassurance. Also school must be noisy cos they are active all day which makes me think they will have to sleep when I do LOL

I wouldn't say I drink tonnes but I have been aiming for 750ml of water and I have at least 5 cups of decaf tea and I drink lots of milkshake. I pee ALL the time, I'm having to go out of lessons to pee and it's never tonnes but I put this down to my babies squahing my bladder and I am only little so I don't think I am dehdrated. Plus as soon as I get up to pee in the night I drink the same amount in water before I go back to sleep.

No fainting spells since I started to eat more during lessons, I have started to put on weight again so it was prolly low blood sugar.

Kash - I have iron in my supplements and although I am off of my meat all the cereal bars I have been eating and the breakfast I have been forcing down since the fainting are fortified with iron.

Thanks girls....

I'm sure I can ring my Doctor for advice but the postition I am in at the moment is: Midwives where I live are reluctant to talk to me because they are not used to twins. I never get the same Doctor when I go for my check up (there is a team of consultants) and it is the NHS so I can't demand an iron test or a blood test if I am worried. They don't even weigh me I go. They check my BP, urine and do the doppler and they have just started to measure the fundus height.......They do ask me if I have any questions (I usually have a list) but then I have to wait four weeks until I see them again so if something arises in the mean time I have to ask you guys or check a book :))

I think Dr's recommend kick counting after 28 weeks. Thats when the kicks are more consistent.

Thanks natemomma, I am feeling movement. I'll just wait until it is a little more consistent. Right now, there isn't much of a pattern to it.

it is early yet, but some women who can feel their babies may be able to do so now if they have active little ones!

Is it time to do fetal kick counts already? I didn't think you started doing that until 24-26 weeks. Am I missing something that I should be doing?

I'm on my 3rd child and I'm 20wks and I too am leaking every so often, especially when I'm laying down on a certain side. If I'm not mistaken, when you have contractions, the baby doesn't generally move, so you wouldn't really feel the baby move then. It is tough to tell the difference sometimes! Keep an eye on how far apart and if possible do your fetal kick counts and follow up with your doctor and listen to everything he/she has to say! Best of luck and keep us posted :)

I mailed u in detail Kirsty.. but missed out on mentioning that my Dr told me exactly the same thing.. that if we go into preterm labor.. there's nothing they can do to help.. yeah not exactly what we want to hear at this stage.
But yes there are things they can do to stop early labor..so I would ignore that comment.
ALSO if ur braxton hicks have a pattern... and u have more than 6/hr... its time to see that Dr. Mine didn't have a pattern... they came and went as they wishes and I had around 2/3 in an hr..so I was okie. But count ur contractions (BH) and check their timings...

How are u feeling now ?? Are u still having those dizzy spells? did u get ur iron levels checked??

I dont know if you recall, but I have "irriatble uterus" What this entails is that I get cramps, sort of like AF cramps, they can hurt a little so I am not sure if it is the smae things as what you are describing or not. But, Mine are much worse when my one baby is moving around a lot, so I can imagine it would be signigicant with two.  Have you tried drinking gatorade or powerade?  My doctor recommended those to be sure that what I was experiencing was not caused by dehydration or an electrolyte imbalance.   Try to rest as much as you can!!

Midwife said they sound like Braxton hicks and these can be triggered by baby movement. They are not usually painful and I'm wondering if the aches I have had last night were just because my uterus is stretching as well. She said the colostrum is normal.
She said to ring back if I get pains with my Bh but if I have started pre term labour they can't do anything anyway so not to worry ....nice and reassuring!!

I've had about ten of those sensations since I got up this morning so I'm just going to have to accept either it is my babies moving or it's BH, both of which are normal for this stage in a pregnancy.

I have definatly heard of women who start to leak colostrum early, my sister did just  before 20 weeks I believe. As far as the pains, I would call your doctor. With twins I would say you probably need to extra cautious, and those sound a little scary to me, mostly because they are so regular. Please call and at least mention it to doctor, I think with twins they will want to know what is going on. Let us know how you are doing.
