34 weeks and dialated 2 cm

I am 34 weeks and went to the hospital a few days ago because I am having a lot of contractions, menstrual like cramps, pelvic pressure and low back pain. The nurse chacked me and said that I am dialated to 2 cm already. They kept me on the monitor for a couple of hours and then sent me home. What I am wondering is how long before I go into real labor? This is my third baby but it has been six years since the last one.

I was 2cm and 40% effaced at 31 weeks. I am now 33 weeks and there has been no change. Some women just begin to dilate a little sooner than others.  It does not mean you will go soon.  With my daughter at 33 weeks I was also 2cm and 60% effaced. I ended up being induced with her at 38 weeks due to blood pressure issues. When I was induced I was still stuck at 2cm.

Quinns momma is right - a girl at work was dilated 5cm and only went a couple of days early.

I don't have any experience with this, personally - my cervix didn't dilate on its own at all with my first pregnancy, and I haven't had an internal exam yet to know if anything is happening this time on its own or not.

i was 50% effaced but not dilated at 33 weeks so i was put on bed rest to carry me to full term now im 37 weeks and 3 days, 1 cm dilated and 40% effaced. i wont try the caster oil thing because i just dont think its best. ive been doing alot of house work, taking care of my 18 month old, and walking. i feel like im never going to go into labor, i even tried sex one time because ive been on no sexual activity to keep the baby baking. nothing seems to work. is there any other suggestions that might help me go into labor? plus i have been in pain for the last month and a half, i stay frustrated and im constantly hurting in my lower back but my dr will not induce me until april 7th,my due date is april 10th.
