Thinning Cervix

Hey everyone!

I just had an appointment today with my OB and because of all of the hip and pubic bone pain I have she decided to run a test to see if I am at high risk for pre-term labor. While she was doing the exam she found that my cervix is thinning already. She is sending me for a transvaginal ultrasound tomorrow to have them check my cervix and the results for the possibility of pre-term labor will be in tomorrow also. I'm wondering if any of you are going through the same thing or know anyone that has..I guess depending on the results she may keep me from continuing to work.

Hi Carrie, we are absolutely having the same pregnancy!!  I'm the same.  Displaced hips, aching pubic bone (stretching ligaments at the joint) and the whole cervical thing.  I was worried because I had a cervical tumor removed 18 months ago and thought that I might have a reduced cervical intergity because of that.  But apparently all is fine.  Baby is head engaged already at 30 weeks, but my #1 engaged at 28 weeks and #2 engaged at 26 so that's fine too.  Just watching days tick on by now.  Mind you, a lot of people I know are placing bets on a Christmas arrival instead of Jan 10.  Who knows??!!???

Well, apparently if your cervical length is good...everything is fine..so we're in the clear!! :)

Yes I was.. I was on it already due to pregnancy induced hypertension.

Thanks for your response!! :) The fetal fibronectin test came back negative and the ultrasound went well..my cervical length is fine, so my doctor will call me tomorrow and let me know what her plan is. Were you on modified bed rest before 33 weeks?

I started thinning out about the same time with my daughter and was 2cm and 60% effaced by 33 weeks. I was already on modified bed rest due to hypertension. She stayed put until I was 38 weeks and had to be induced due to the blood pressure. From 33 weeks to 38 weeks my cervix did not thin or dialate anymore. However once they started pitocin at my induction and broke my water I went from 5cm to 10cm in 45 mins. :)  She came very quickly...
