Growth U/S and due date

I just came back from my growth ultrasound. Everything looked good except that the nurse told me the baby probably weighs around 4 Ib now, which is considered a bit ahead of schedule. I am almost 31 weeks. I was wondering if any of you had a big baby. Did you end up having C-section or was the vaginal birth difficult? As I get closer to my due date, I get more and more scared about th ebirth process;-).

Thanks
Lily

I had a growth scan on 31w 6d and the doctor estimated my baby's weight as 4 lbs, 6 oz. she said that was in the 60th percentile - slightly bigger than average, but not huge. I looked up a birth weight chart online and the 60th percentile birth weight is about 8 lbs. Everything looked good so I was happy.

my last u/s they are estimating my babe a week ahead with an estimated weight of 3lb 7oz.  I am due for C-section on January 28th with due date of Feburary 4th.  this is my first baby so I have no idea if this is normal or not but doctor and sonographer seem to think everything is going ok, so I am going to roll with it.

not to worry at this stage... focus on breathing methods and relaxation.. you need it at labor room..:-)

Good luck

I'm not sure they can really tell birth weight by US.  a guess is as good as anything though.  I am preg with #3 and my 20 week US put the growth as being 'consistent with dates' but nothing more than that.  My first was 7lb at full term with a head circumference of 35cm, #2 was also 7lb with HC of 34.5.  I tore with #1 and needed 12 stitches - but not at all with #2, but I put that down to knowing a bit more about letting labour happen slowly and not pushing with #2.

This time, my Ob suggests I should expect a slightly larger baby - perhaps 8lb.  I made it through both labours with minimal pain relief, so as long as the head isn't much bigger than 35, I'll be ok. Although I'm a small build, I've got good open hips apparently.  My neighbour had c's with both of her girls and they were both 6lb.

According to the info pages here in Aus, the average for this (31 week) gestation is about 4lb which delivers about a 7lb baby.  You are probably on track for a nice healthy little one.  Try not to worry.  The more you relax the easier it will be.  All the best!!!

Sorry, I wish I could help you!  During my last pregnancy, I remember asking my OB what he thought the baby weighed when I was getting closer to the end, and he said it would just be a guess.  DS ended up being 7lbs. 6ozs and he was a week overdue.

This time, I have no sense for how big the baby is either.  Someone on the Pregnancy 18-34 board just had her baby at 32 weeks and the baby weighed 4lbs...which others seemed to think was big for the gestational age.
