Hello -

This is my first pregnancy and I am in California.  I am starting to think about buying baby items and am getting overwhelmed.

Are there good websites to order baby items?
What stores carry good safe products?
What type of car seats are good to have?  brands?
What about strollers?  Jogging ones?  Travel ones?
What items are needed in the baby room?

Definitely amazon if your going to order online. Good place to find lowest price too.  Oh and babiesrus.com

like Kathy said, every store is going to hae safe items and good quality ones, the best thing to do is for things like carseats, read up on them and see what has the best safety ratings. With other things, amazon reviews are a great place to check if its worth your money. (things like toys, swings, bouncy seats.)

What type of car seats are good to have?  brands?
LIke i said before, i would see whats in your price range and then check the safety ratings, Britax is an upper end brand with good safety ratings and Graco is a good middle of the road brand also with good safety ratings. Just figure out which carset your looking at and check the safety ratings on that model.

What about strollers?  Jogging ones?  Travel ones?
I've always LOVED travel systems. Graco makes really good ones, where the carseat clicks into the stroller so you don't have to take them out of the carseat while they are sleeping and rebuckle them into the stroller. I know there are a few other brands that do the same things but you'd have to see which ones get good reviews. BUT they are sort of heavy. Graco also makes just a aluminum frame to click your carseat into thats pretty much a stroller frame without the weight. Its not very expensive and works well when they are still very little and a regular stroller makes them look tiny when you put them in it.


What items are needed in the baby room?
Crib or bassinet, glider or rocking chair, a not overly bright lamp so that you can turn it on to see in the middle of the night, a mobile for the crib or bassinet, a dresser for the things you don't want in the closet, i've always put my diapers, diaper cream, the baby nail clippers and stuff like that in one of the top drawers so its easy to get to and doesnt get lost.

Target.com, Amazon.com, walmart.com any site has it's up's and downs, including cost, shipping, etc.


What stores carry good safe products?

All stores have the possibility of safety recalls, your best bet is to look at each brand's website (ie. graco.com) for their recent recall items.
If you already have items purchased, you can even search your item number and get full refunds usually or an exchange


What type of car seats are good to have?
What about strollers?  Jogging ones?  Travel ones?

I went with a graco travel package, this includes the car seat, head support, car seat base for the car and a matching stroller. But like any item, look for recalls and find what will work for you, weight/color/etc.


What items are needed in the baby room?

Crib, diaper changing table/combo dresser (I had one of these and didnt use the diaper changing station much, but it is helpful late at night), a rocking chair (evening feedings or soothing baby to sleep), Lamp, Radio/music player... most of the other things are for once they get older and more mobile- like toys, books, etc. For now getting the coordinating set just makes the room look cute. =D


I hope this helps out some... most websites for baby registrys will have lists to help you with wants and need. I loved the one at target.com!!
