Why am I having these pains?

I am 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant today. My due date is 01/4/2011...I am so excited, but I can't stop worring that something is going to go wrong. Maybe I will be able to relax after I make it past my first trimester. I have been having pains when ever I sneeze or cough on my left and right lower abdomen...anyone know what that could be?

Stephy,
Im 7 weeks and been having the same pains, from just the family members I've talked to they all say its normal, my mother said especially with a first baby because your uterus and the muscles around it have never been stretched like this before, my aunt said the same thing. I would agree with dragon, of course tell your doctor everything you worry about, help put your mind at ease and what not, but dont stress out about it. and btw Congrats!!!

Perfectly reasonable!
Do let us know what your doctor says!  And worrying is absolutely normal, it's the "mom" in you!!!

Just a quick comment for everyone with the pains!

It is quite normal and usual to have cramping and pains like you are stretching or pulled a muscle.  There is a term also called round ligament stretching that can occur really early and all the way through your pregnancy.  It can be quite unbearable at times, not just the pain alone but the worry that something is wrong.
Most times it is best to check and report these kinds of pains to your doctors, just in case, but often the ligament stretching is usually the culprit, and quite normal.

Hope this helps!

I have been having those pains too, and when I twist my body to reach for something (I am 7 wks 5 days) but I'm not worried about these pains- they are normal during pregnancy, so don't worry! I had a mild cramping pain yesterday for about 10 mins, then it disappeared... I was worried about this kind of pain but apparently that's normal too. If you imagine all the activity that's going on down there at such a fast rate, it's no wonder we feel some aches and pains! Good luck!
