Daughter has parvovirus and now baby is at risk :-(

Well I had my ulrtasound this morning and baby decided to either sleep or just not co-operate and didn't really open his/her legs. Booooo :-( My Dr tried and tried but to no avail. She thinks it may be a girl but it isn't definite, I'll have to wait another 4 weeks.

Well I am freaking out at the moment as a toddler at my daughters child care has parvovirus b19 (fifth's disease). It's quite contagious and is transmitted via body fluids such as saliva. The child care provider informed me yesterday and I did notice a light rash on my daughters thighs and when bathing her today, I also saw it on her legs. My husband thinks I am overreacting and that perhaps I changed the washing detergent which I didn't, my daughter has sensitive skin and I can't use normal detergent or any softeners.

I got my blood taken today and they will check my antibody levels to see if I am immune or not i.e. if I have antibodies and have either had it before or am currently infected. I was told that if the baby is infected with the virus, at this stage of the pregnancy, the chance of foetal death is around 10-15% or the baby may develop a heart infection, or severe anaemia that he/she may require an intrauterine blood transfusion.

I'm so worried and hoping and praying that I have already had this as a child. My Dr said she had a patient whose baby died at 13 weeks in utero following exposure. I don't know how I am going to get through the weekend until I get the results. I'm just so worried and just can't stop thinking about it but husband this I am paranoid, he was there at the Dr's. I'm just so scared :-(

I haven't been on much too. Child care has holidays and I'm with my little girl all day.

Well I don't have an active infection which is great and I haven't been exposed too. My daughter had a small rash which went away and it was most likely an allergy to something, she has sensitive skin. Until now, she's had nothing and the rash shows up 4-7 days after exposure. Just so glad, especially after being told about the complications. If exposed after 20 weeks, the risks are much lower, just thrilled we both don't have it :-)

Thanks guys! Well I'm just keeping my eye out on my girl, checking if she develops a rash. She has a light rash which I described and it went away, so that wasn't the typical rash. Just have to wait for my antibody titres which I will call in for on Tuesday and hope I am immune and pray my daughter didn't contract it. It's scary but the fact I haven't seen a rash all over her body yet has eased my mind a little.

I will keep you guys updated, hope everyone is doing well :-)

I am so sorry to read this- how frightening for you.  Are they testing your daughter?  I am hoping it is just the detergent.  Hang in there and keep us posted.
