They have lots of ways of helping you deal with the pain effectively - breathing,  relaxation and distraction, music, walking,  hydrotherapy,  birthing ball and of course pain medication.  All designed to help you through labor and make it a positive experience.

I'm due the 22. Will be my first child. I'm scared too honestly but I have not let it get to me like I did when I found out. Here is how I look at it. No matter what kind of pain I endure during labor- it's one of the only such pains in the world that comes with such a reward. The pain WILL end and I will have my son in my arms to make it worth the while. He's going to come out one way or another so I try not to dwell on my fear of the pain you know? You will be okay mama! Keep your head up!
