20 week ultrasound question

So, I have my 20 week ultrasound scheduled for the 25th. I'm extremely nervous about it. For all those who have had it what should I expect? I'm having to go alone due to my fiance being out of town for work and very worried about what could happen, which may be silly...what are they looking for and what tests will be done? I have 2 children but my youngest is 10 and I don't remember anyyyyy of this lol.

I had mine last week and unfortunately the baby did not cooperate so I go again next week.  The appointment can take btw 2-3 hrs so be prepared, perhaps take a drink with you.  They first do a vaginal ultrasound to measure your cervix and take some images.  Next they will do the ultrasound on your stomach.  They take images of every part of your baby (heart, brain, feet, legs etc)  It may be hard to tell what they are looking at but you can ask questions.  Best of luck:)

Yea that's the one I'm referring to. I'm nervous!! I also have a consult after to determine exactly what day to have my csection. I had a classical incision with my 1st at 29 weeks so I'm thinking they'll want to schedule it for 37 weeks... I just hope my little one is healthy!! Do they always do a 4d?? How exciting!! My fiance may be home ftoday I'm praying he is since the appt is Tuesday but there's no guarantee...

I had mine this morning.  I was nervous,  but turns out it was just a LOT of picture taking. It took about 2 hours.   They took pics of the baby from a million different angles.  I found out I'm having a boy. Then she did an internal exam and took pics of my cervix (that part was optional, i opted in). I drank lots of water and had cereal before I went.  The ultrasound tech took the pictures to the dr. Who looked at them and then came in and told me she didn't see any problems so she advised me to keep going to regular appointments.

are you talking about the one with the perinatologist where they look more in depth at all the organs n structures? I have mine on the 27th. I'm nervous too but staying positive. I think as long as you're healthy n your baby is getting enough nutrients, things should be just fine. The docs like to do this to ensure that everything is going smoothly. But of course if something is found, u have options this early on to approach the situation. Don't fret too much. I actually went to my first one alone when I was pregnant with my first baby. I was actually more excited because I wanted to see the little one (my boyfriend was out of state with his family). It's pretty cool because it's a 4-d ultrasound n you can see your little one almost clearly. My first one had his foot by his face n he was wiggling his toes which tickles his forehead n made him smile. He was blinking too. I was able to get a dvd of it. :). I'm sure you n your baby will be fine. Don't stress.

Mamamagss has it right.  Nothing to worry about.  They will measure the baby and look at blood flow and such. Gender should be able to be determined if the baby cooperates also.  Sometimes they like to keep their legs crossed.  One tip I've read that helps is to drink orange juice before. The sugar will energize baby so they'll be more active which is great for the tech in determining gender.  Mine is on the 26th so I'm in the same boat.  Best of luck to you! :)

Hi there. I'm in the same boat. I have my big ultrasound appointment on the 18th and I'll be bringing along my 3 year old. Hubby also will be at work. I do know that it's just to measure the baby and see the growth and to check for any birth defects or abnormalities if able to detect. Also, to find out the gender if baby cooperates! It's nice to bring someone along for support in case but it's also exciting to see your baby up close and know exactly how he/she is doing in there. Don't stress too much! if it helps, bring someone along with you.
