Eating and drinking during labor?

I'm 34w+ pregnant with baby boy #2. I was induced my first pregnancy at exactly 40w and during my labor I wasn't allowed to eat or drink and opted out of having ice chips cause it would have been torture so I fasted. My sister Inlaw went into labor naturally and they also didn't let her eat or drink. The reasoning is "just in case an emergency C-Section" needed to happen which neither of us had to do.

With this pregnancy all of the blogs, podcasts, and articles I read recommend bringing snacks to eat while in the hospital so now I'm confused could we eat and drink during labor?

Yeah I wouldn't want to throw up while going through contractions. Thanks for sharing!

I wouldn't eat during labor. I snuck half of a granola bar while the nurse was out of the room because I was starving after going into labor early in the morning. They had me sit up and I got nauseous and threw up. They said it's common to have nausea from contractions. I think the blogs that say to bring snacks are meaning for after labor because you will be so hungry. My hospital provided plenty of food though so maybe check and see what the food options are at your hospital.

That's so awesome,  I wish my hospital had a natural birthing area!

I was allowed to eat cherry jello.  That helped although I ended up throwing up from contractions and forgot I had the jello earlier. I freaked out when I saw red. Just keep your eating light and remember what you ate in case this happens to you.

^^ she's on point with everything she said. If you had to have anesthesia and threw up from, they don't want you aspirating it. Some hospitals let you eat if you're delivering naturally. I'm delivering in a special natural birth area in my hospital and we are encouraged to eat.

The hospital is the reason for that restriction. Sadly research shows is actually helpful for women to eat and drink during labor. But due to liability and the possible need for a c section hospitals typically will not allow you to eat or drink. :-/
