A little scared

Hi everyone,

I think I'm about 4 weeks, 5 days pregnant today. My anticipated due date is July 16th. Today was the first day that I felt very, very fatigued. I ws irritable and just couldn't get myself to do much of anything all day. A few minutes ago, I went to the bathroom and had some very light (pinkish/brown/clear) discharge. I read that during the first trimester it is common to have light spotting and that it's only cause for concern if it becomes heavier and is accompanied by cramping. I also read that spotting can be due to implantation bleeding, which usually occurs around 7 to 9 weeks (which in my case would be too early to experience). My husband and I did make love yesterday which I hear can also cause some bleeding, but I wasn't sure if they meant the bleeding would occur right away or not (I did not bleed at all yesterday after sex). My other symptoms include tender breasts and feeling hungry more than usual, but that's about it. My concern is that due to insurance reasons, my first prenatal appointment will be in January, at 13 weeks, which the OB-GYN said was fine as long as I didn't have any serious symptoms before then. Is light spotting something I should be running to the doctor's office for? Even though I read that it's common, this is my first time being pregnant and so I'm extra worried about every little thing. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I do have a friend who is an OB-GYN and I'm thinking of calling her just to get some reassurance.

Thanks a bunch!

I agree with Joy.  You should contact your Dr. if there if there is any bleeding or dark discharge just to be safe.  Even though it might be fine, it is best to have the Dr. reassure you that everything is going well.  Also, in my case, I'm Rh negative and if I bleed at all ~ I will need a needle to make sure everything continues to go well.

Actually bloating and fatigue are pregnancy symptoms! I feel the same way as do many of the other ladies here. It might not be until around 12 weeks or so that you feel more energized!

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Your suggestion is a helpful one. I'm just so out of it today, so tired, and bloated with gas...which could be food related, having nothing at all to do with pregnancy. I'm going to watch a movie now with my husband (who can't understand what's wrong with me). :( Hoping tomorrow will be a better day, full of energy.

Thanks again.

I would call your doctor tomorrow and request that your HCG and progesterone levels be tested. Many women do spot and bleed during pregnancy (for example, my sister did and all three of her daughters and they were born healthy) and it's perfectly fine. But get the levels checked just to ease your mind!

You won't have to physically see your doctor for the lab papers. You just have to go to the lab and have them draw your blood. I've had one blood draw and will be getting a second one hopefully tomorrow (Monday).
