Encouraging Crawling

Just wondering what you ladies have done (if anything) to encourage crawling.  I'm not overly concerned with crawling as I didn't crawl until after I walked- just up and walked at 9 months and my younger brother scooted for like a week and then walked at 10 months, so there is a possibility that Cash may not crawl. However, DH crawled before walking so I'm wondering if Cash will.
Is there anything we can do to encourage crawling?  I put toys out of his reach but he just fusses, then gets mad, and then cries.  I've also tried showing him how to get on his knees but he doesn't want to do it.
He lays on his tummy and moves with his arms but doesn't use his legs so he just sort of spins around in a circle - funny!

Really it's up to the baby. With Jeremy I put him on his activity blanket back down and he is within 5 mins on his stomach trying to crawl. He goes nowhere but the effort is there..LOL. My oldest never did a thing till he was 15 mos ! Every baby is different in my opinion I think there weight plays a huge roll. Jeremy is huge so it's going to be hard for him to get up and run around. I can't wait tho he is so determined! I would just keep putting him on his belly and see what he does from there!!!!

Dani:  I too have the video monitor and we watch Cash all the time!  It does give me peace of mind though bc when I wake up in the middle of the night I just look over at the tv monitor and see that everything is fine!  Best baby gadget ever!

First Cub- I wish you had the video moniter to watch that!  I LOVE it, but I do say I spend alot of time watching it LOL!  We even put it on our tv screen and call it "Coltervision".  Just think of all the sleep you would lose like I do cause you would be checking Jack on the moniter all night!

So JT was a difficult one. He would not stay on his tummy for anything he would just roll over onto his back and look at the ceiling. It didn't change much once he finally learned to roll from back to tummy. But I noticed if I sat him down and put a lot of toys around him just out of reach he would reach for them and sooner then later started lunging into a crawling position. Once he realized he could do that he would just do it on his own, then the rocking started, then he started crawling. He is still pretty lazy he won't crawl far  even putting toys out of his reach doesn't help. He crawls to get close and then he lays on his tummy and pushes himself forward to get the toy. But if Cash doesn't seem interested he may just up and start walking like you. Don't worry about it. You should consider yourself lucky, JT gets into everything :-( lol

Anika was rolling over both ways by 5 months, crawling at 5.5 months and took her first steps at 8.5 months and was running shortly after.  iliana is 5.5 months and just started rolling over from back to front (not front to back yet).  I am definitely enjoying the fact that she is a baby a little bit longer.

I think you girls are doing great with trying to encourage movement but I honestly don't think there is anything we can do to move the process along.  I think it'll happen when it happens.  As zazou shared, every baby is different and milestones will be reached at different rates.
No worries!!  Your babies are doing well.

Medina has been moving herself around in circles since she turned six months, then she started creeping shortly afterwards and a few days ago she turned into a commando crawler. I was also worried about when she would start but then all of a sudden, she just developed really quickly and it happened.

I did put things out of her reach but it also didn't really help. Usually something really special may help e.g. I've heard that mobile phones get many babies to crawl lol. With Medina it was a small pink ball with a bell inside that actually belongs to our cats (who actually didn't play with it and I disinfected it for Medina).

I thought that I could help strengthen Medina leg's with a roller, apparently it encourages babies to crawl. Well, she loved the colours and pictures on it, loved sucking on it and banging it (hers had three balls with bells inside in the roller). But to help in her crawling - not in our case.

Don't forget that many babies usually crawl at 8 or 9 months. Every baby develops differently. Some achieve particular milestones earlier, and achieve other milestones later than their playmates. Achieving milestones earlier doesn't mean your child is a genius and achieving milestones later doesn't mean your child has a problem. Every baby is different and that's what's so wonderful about them.

My co-worker has an 8-month-old daughter who has been crawling since 6 months. Jack is 6 1/2 months and while I think he's getting close, I don't see him actually crawling quiet yet. He gets on his tummy and reach for toys, but like Cash, after a second if he can't reach it he'll put his head into the play mat and scream in frustration! At night he's rolling from his back to his stomach and when we check on him he'll be sticking his bootie in the air really high and sleeping like an inch worm. Then we'll check on him 30 minutes later and he's in the same position on the other side of the crib! He's getting to the other side somehow, but I don't know! Ha Ha. Little stinker. I need to put a camera in his room and catch him in the act!

Ladybugbob- I think you are doing the right thing, keep working on his tummy time everyday.
Does he roll over yet? both ways. James completed his rolling over stages at the end of his 5 month and once he turned 6 months he started rolling all over the place to get from corner of the room to the other.

He has always liked tummy time, so he pushes himself up with his arms and bend his knees and start crawling or "pushing" but he is efforts are mostly in reverse, he only goes in one direction backwards.

Nowdays we are back form California and he is sleeping a lot during the day but when he is awake we do floor time at least 1 hour in the morning and other in the afternoon.

I suggest that you should just put Cash in the floor and let him work his magic, you will see tha one day he is going to start zooming. Bbaies work at their own pace, I look at James and he still has not teeth yet, and his babbling now is more like dahhh, dahhhh, mahhh, mahhh, bahhhh.

Don't worry he is doing great.
