I am SUCH a new first time mom - baby cry question

How often do babies cry? in general?  I'm think my babies colic may be going away, but he still cries during the day.  How often does a baby cry during the day?  Do they cry when they just want to be moved around? And sometimes for no reason - like nothing you do is right?  And then finally they just stop.  I'm so used to having a colicy baby that I don't know what to expect from a "normal" baby.

I am SUCH a first time Mom!!!!  I feel so lost at this stuff!

Dani - my little one was born July 1st.  I think his colic is going away now that he is getting older but he still cries for about an hour and a half straight every other night.  (Better than the 3 or 4 hours that we started with!!).

danielleacor - what medicine did you get for reflux?  My baby has reflux and he is taking Zantac - just wondering what other options there are out there.

Thanks everyone for the help!!

Hi there,
My daughter has colic, and acid reflux. It took me about 3 weeks of non stop crying to figure this out. If your baby crys for more than 3 hours a day then it's usualyl a sign of pain. Look for signs. Arching on the back, clenched fists, spitting up, projectile vomiting. If you have 2 or more of these symptoms, i would maybe talk to your pediiatrician about some help. My doctor told me to switch formula to Nutramigen. She defidently improved with the pain and gas she was having, but she still would spit up almost half of her bottle each feeding. yesterday my doctor prescribed her some medicine for reflux. As much as i hate medicating my baby after only 9 weeks, i could tell a HUGE difference, and i got my sanity back. She slept for 6 hours straight last night. it was a miracle!

Good luck sweetie!

I am in the same position as you...when was your's born...mine was July 19th.  I feel like the colic fits have really stopped for the most part since I quit eating dairy, but he still does cry ALOT!  It is such a different cry now than those hours apon hours of crying though.  Now I am learning to figure out what the different cries mean.
I think we have been in the same boat, so lets hope we now have "normal" babies LOL!

I think that they mainly cry when they are hungry.  I have noticed that my baby cries for several reasons.
-trying to poop he squirms and cries and fusses
-he's HUNGRY and cries until fed
-he's tired and wont fall asleep which means that he wants to be at the breast until he falls asleep
-wants to be picked up or moved which is not as often as being hugry
