Jack's red tushy update. Ha!

Well, I took Jack to daycare late yesterday thinking the corn starch did the trick. And I think it did help. But at 3:30 p.m. we got a call that he was still having diarrhea all day and wouldn't let the staff even touch his tush! Poor guy. I decided that's it, we're going to the doctor! I was worried since we'd just been there 100 times for his ear that she'd think I was an overreactive first time mother but the doc was really understanding and said she was very glad I brought him in.

She gave me three free big jugs of Similac Isomil DF (diarrhea formula). Jack usually eats Enfamil but she said to have him take this diarrhea formula for a week and a half. She also prescribed two creams - one is a burn cream and the other is an ointment. And she sent DH and I home with three tubes to collect stool samples in. Eck! We've truly arrived as parents!!! Ha.

We just took the poopy samples to the doctor and Jack just got dropped at daycare again...I am hoping he can make it the whole day without a call home. Let's hope this all does the trick. They're testing his stool to see if it's viral or just a matter of him being on antibiotics for a month (for ear) and then off of antibiotics. She said that is probably the problem.

Anyhow, I thought I'd update everyone. This has been really hard on DH and I. Jack has had to have a diaper change almost every hour through the night and we have to literally undress him and rinse him in the bathtub...then let dry for 5 minutes, then put on ointments and new diaper each time. By the time we get him back to sleep and get in bed, we have had about 30 min to 40 min to sleep before he wakes back up screaming with diarrhea burning his bum (and then repeat the bathtub, etc). Ugh.

We just want our little guy to get better because we' know he's been miserable. He breaks out in tears  if we even put him on the changing table now because he knows what's coming. It's horrible. : (
I took the rest of the day off work to try to sleep this afternoon while Jack is in daycare. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

xo, Heather

Hey girl. Thanks for asking. Jack's daycare called yesterday about four times and kept giving me bad updates. I had already missed a ton of work so i was just trying to make it to 5 p.m. so my editors wouldn't kill me. I made it to about 4:40 pm and left to get him. He was miserable all day and when I picked him up he was in his crib fast asleep with his butt in the air. I took him home and he had a messy night but fell asleep about 11 p.m. and stayed asleep until 8 a.m. He had diarrhea three times before 10 a.m. His diaper rash was looking better but that's always happens after a night of sleep and no irritation...then goes back to red again within a few hours. I had called Jack's doc yesterday to get more advice and she had me bring him in today at 10 a.m. He now has another double ear infection on top of everything else..so more antibiotics starting tonight. UGH. We get his stool sample results back on Tuesday so I'm anxious to find out what's going on. Until then just keep doing what we're doing. It is awful because our paper has reporters rotate a weekend shift. This is my week. So while it's good I didnt have to be at work until 4 pm today, I do have to work until midnight and then work tomorrow too. So, I'm sad about that part.
It is times like this that I wish I could be a SAHM but other times I'm glad to be working.
But when he's sick like this, I just feel like I want to be with him and tell work to leave me alone! Ha.
I think I'm just tired and stressed. I'm just feeling really down right now but this is all temporary and it'll pass!

Poor guy. He seemed to be doing so much better yesterday morning, but then daycare called at 3 p.m. again and he was miserable, again. Diarrhea had started back up and his tushy was bright red and raw again. I took him home early and aired out his bum for a little bit, which was very messy given his constant diarrhea. Ugh. It's been a MESS.
Last night was bad again, he was up with diarrhea all night but went down around 4 a.m. He was out like a light when I woke him up to go to daycare before work. I am expecting another call from daycare this afternoon but am trying to work. I know my bosses are getting annoyed but what am I supposed to do. Jack is first in my life.
I also turned in his two extra stool samples to the doctor this morning. I won't hear anything back though for a whole week!? How does that help anything?
The diarrhea formula and probiotics aren't even working. I feel like we're doing a million things and nothing is stopping his diarrhea and diaper rash. He is miserable and this has been going on for a whole week now.
I'm exhausted and at my wits end.
Okay, that vent is out. SIGH.
Thanks for all the well wishes guys!!

Poor baby :-( How long has he been on antibiotics? Medina hat a bad diaper rash when she was on I.V. antibiotics but I used Weleda diaper rash cream and it healed pretty well. Maybe give that a go, calendula is rather soothing.
