very itchy!

Apart from very itchy breasts, I have what looks like teeny bug bits on the lower front and the entire back of my legs, a few on the sides of my thighs, and a little bit on my right elbow. It itches so bad and since I scratched so hard on my legs, it looks horrible now...kind of like brush burn. It is very possible this is completely unrelated to pregnancy and I am just all bitten up or came into contact with some irritant such as a plant. I was just curious if anyone else has any rashes or anything of the sort.

Thanks! Hope everyone is doing well.

I kind of understand how frustrating it is bc for like the last 2 weeks I was having severe itchiness everywhere! Everyone keeps telling me its my skin stretching but I refuse to believe it. Its like my scalp, my ankles, my arms, legs and its mainly when I lay down at night. I thought it was something in our bed but I went to sleep in my stepsons room and I had the same problem. Im sure my skin is stretching, but my scalp and ankles too?? lol. I dont know, I have tried putting lotion religiously and shaving every single day, and I think im going to go insane! I intend to bring up the severity of this issue at my appt on Friday, lol. And as for the dermatologist...she *****! I would call up there and be very firm that you will need another appt asap at no charge since the first one has gotten you nothing but more rashes!

Hi again,

I just want to vent my frustration. My rash is not going away...in fact, it looks like hives on my thigh and itches so  badly at night. My elbows, arms, and now I've noticed it on my feet. So, I called the Ob-Gyn and she said to take Benedryl and put on hydrocortisone cream. She said if it didn't go away within a week to see a dermatologist. So, off I went to see one...and she basically doesn't know what it is...probably hives, some kind of allergy, etc. So, she prescribed 3 medications...an oral anti-itch and two other ones. I informed her I was in my first trimester so I assumed she was prescribing safe meds. I go to pick up my prescriptions last night and the pharmacist tells me that they are class C and class X drugs and that I should not be taking them! At the very, very least, the dermatologist should have discussed the potential risks with me and she did not. So, I'm very frustrated and in the meantime, the rash is spreading and is itchy.

Thanks for reading. I'm just really upset about this! But, that should be the worst of my problems!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to check in and see if anyone at all has ever had (or knows anyone who has) an itchy, red rash that resembles either bites, hives, or both? The itching on my legs and elbows has decreased, but not it's one one thigh and up towards my hip (and a few on my butt), and a litle bit on the other thigh. Although I have no health coverage until Jan 1st, my doctor did talk to me on the phone...barely asked any questions and just said to take Benedryl, use hydrocortisone cream and see a dermatologist if it's not gone by next week. It's taking all my willpower not to scratch as I know that will make it worse. I've done tons of googling but it seems that rashes aren't that common in the first trimester. I've increased my dairy a lot since I've been pregnant and part of me keeps wondering if the rash is due to that. Has anyone else experienced this?

I just had to write that I just found out I was pregnant yesterday on Thanksgiving but have been itching like crazy 3 days before then.  And still itching!  It is the weirdest symptom.  Especially on breast and legs.  It's driving me nuts!!!  Did anything help with anyone else's scratch skin?  I need to go to store and buy some calming lotion (??) for it.

Benedryl is completely safe to take during pregnancy.

I have them on my elbows and I just noticed a few more light ones on my forearm, my legs, my thighs itch and well, that's about it. I have never had food allergies before and I'm indoors most of the time so I highly doubt I came into contact with a plant. The only thing I can think of is that this is hormone related. I can't do anything about it until I see my doctor in January since I don't have health insurance until then. However, I do have some friends who are nurses and doctors and I guess it couldn't hurt to show them and see what they think. I'm not sure if it's safe to take Benedryl, but that's probably what I should be taking.

I got them too on my forearm and my stomach. I think they are from hormone changes. I took nothing and they went away. I hope you feel better soon!!!

I don't think so, I am pretty sure all we can take is tylenol. But yeah just ask the pharmacist.

Great idea. I'm going to buy some calamine tomorrow. Do you know if Advil or Tylenol is safe to take during pregnancy? I can check with the pharmacist tomorrow.

Well thats good, the only reason I asked is that when I was little we moved into our new house and the previous owners dog had flees so they were in our carpet and they would always bite the back of our legs.

I dont think it has anything to do with pregnancy, you could look into seeing if calamine lotion is safe during pregnancy, I would assume it is though.

Hi GRose,

We don't have any pets at all but there do seem to be an awful lot of little bugs flying around our house, mesquitos and such. I suspect this has nothing to do with pregnancy and but rather that I came into contact with a plant of some sort...my husband says they're bites and to just stay covered up and stop scratching. Easier said than done.

Any chance your pets have flees?

Of course I had to do a google search and now I've just freaked myself out with something called ICP. I think, though, it's mostly in the 3rd trimester. Hopefully, this is nothing more than a bunch of nasty bug bites.
