Tylenol PM

Hi. I was wondering is it ok to take Tylenol PM to help me sleep at night? I'm only getting maybe if I'm lucky 3 hours of sleep!!! it's been terrible. I heard that you can take any Tylenol.

My doc told me that is the only thing I can take. I have been having major, major trouble sleeping, so he told me to take tylenol PM and when it didn't work, he gave me 7 ambien and said to only take those if I really, really cannot sleep. I haven't taken them yet and probably wont.

Well, i went to the dr and totally forgot to ask about the Tylenol PM.  They were SO busy - it slipped my mind.  I switched all of my appts to Tuesdays bc Mondays are so hectic at my dr's office (mainly bc everyone that had probs over the weekend is there trying to get worked in between regularly scheduled appts), but bc Monday was a holiday - yesterday was CRAZY at my dr's office.
My dr's office gives all OB patients a little book that they make with FAQ and it does say any Tylenol product and it also says Benadryl for allergies so I would assume Tylenol PM is ok just from reading that.
The bath thing - my grandmother told me that too, so I asked my doctor early on in my pregnancy and he said that its more like an old wives tale that bacteria can be introduced that way.  He recommends baths for contractions, restlessness, soreness, etc.  as long as they are under 100 degrees (just to keep my temp from rising) and as long as you have not lost your mucus plug or your water has broken.  He said that in those two scenarios it could be possible for bacteria to enter.  So, I guess its like AP said - all Dr's have different takes on things.

AP--I too have never heard anything about bathing causing contractions (hmmmm...).  My doc suggested I take a bath everynight before bed to help with sleep and soreness.  I did hear about the bacteria particularly if one is prone to UTI's.  I was told not to have a bath when I had my UTIs'.

AP- Really? I have never heard that (bacteria or warm causing contractions)
Whats funny is that I take baths when I am sore and having a lot of BH and it seems to calm them down....weird

I just spoke to my dr. today because I have a head cold.  He said that anything "Tylenol" is fine, even Tylenol PM.  It's the Benedryl that makes you sleepy and that is ok in moderation.

See this totally backs up what I'm saying. Every dr practices medicine differently especially state to state. I was always told to stay away from taking a bath due to bacteria etc. I was also told the warm can induce contractions etc. See every dr is different!

Yup it is perfectly safe, tylenol PM is just tylenol and benedryl, both are safe during pregnancy. Make sure you are only taking it if you absolutely need it though. Try taking a relaxing bath and drinking some sleepy time tea, that might help or at least it is worth a try.

My dr told me it's okay but only to take as needed. I would double check with your dr before taking anything. Every woman and pg is different and you don't want to jeaopordize anything. As for the sleep it will continue to get worse until you deliver the baby! Welcome to the joys of pregnancy!

I want to know this too!  I am going to ask my Dr today at my appointment.  I am only getting maybe 2 hours every night!!  That goes on for about 3 days and then finally I'll get about 5 straight (i think my body just gives up) and then its back to just 2 hours a night!  And that's if you add - its not 2 hours consecutive.  I'll post after my appt.
