ear infection??

For the past few days my two month old, while eating his bottle, will jerk his head from side to side.  It's not that he doesn't want the bottle, because he goes right back to it, but for some reason keeps slinging his head.  He also cries out occasionally as if in pain.
He has also gone from getting up once thru the night to waking 4 or 5+ times.  He is not hungry, just restless; will go back to sleep then wake 5 minutes later over and over again
The head slinging has got me wondering if he could possibly have an ear infection.  Has anyone seen this symptom in their child with an ear infection??  He has no other symptoms...
I hate to make a trip to the doctor for nothing, exposing him to worse things like h1n1, not to mention that i can't really afford to take off work..... Any experience or advice?  Is he too young to have an ear infection?

I just took JT in for the same thing today and luckily it isn't an ear infection but since he wakes up a lot more the doctor said his teething could be getting worse.

Thanks, we went to the doc today and no ear infection.  You could def by right about the turning the head thing.  He likes to see what's going on!  I just thought in connection with the not sleeping that it could be something else...

Hey girl.  I don't know if its an ear infection or not bc I'm a first time mom and my LO hasn't had one so far.  But, Cash has lately been trying to look back and forth by moving his head while sucking his bottle.  I really think its just bc his site is improving and he doesn't want to miss anything.  He also cries out when drinking his bottle if its not coming out fast enough.  We use Dr. Brown's and after doing some research I found that if you loosen the ring on the bottle it will help the flow to quicken.  I'm not sure about the waking though.  My friend who has two kids told me that ususally with an ear infection they pull at their ears.  But I know that's not for sure.  Just wanted to tell you what my LO is doing as maybe it will help.
