Blood in my snot?

Over the last week I have had a cold and so have been blowing my nose. I have noticed that there is often blood in the tissue with the snot. It isn't very much, but it is there. What worries me is that I get pre ecclampsia and I think that might be a symptom of elevated blood pressure.

I guess I need to check this one out with my doctor, but I was just wondering if this is happening to anyone else?

I agree with Annie - I blow my nose too and there is blood - I think it has to do with the increased blood flow while pregnant and the vessels there are more delicate.  But mention to your dr at your next appt.

I have had blood in my tissue and even bad bloody noses all thru the pregnancy and was told not to worry about it, its normal.

Thanks everyone, it is nice to know it is so common.

I rang my OB and they said that it sounds normal and if I'm still worried to get my normal doc to check my blood pressure to ease my mind. (much cheaper that way)

I think I'll just wait for my next check-up which is on the 4th June and not too far away now.

I've also had this happen since first finding out I was pregnant.  It's actually impossible for me to blow my nose without seeing blood.  But I would definitely get your blood pressure checked anyway.

I've had this happen almost since I found out I was pregnant this time....I agree, mention it to doc, but you can ask my husband all of my snot rags (sorry LOL) have been bloody for the past 8 months :). Like you, nothing MAJOR, but enough blood to say "hey look, blood!"

It's pretty common to get nosebleeds in pregnancy.  This doesn't rule out preeclampsia, but it probably doesn't indicate it either.
