My Birth Story!

My baby is finally here! I had a membrane sweep on my due date which was a Saturday but my cervix was still high and closed so she couldn't do the sweep properly. On the Tuesday morning at 4:04am i had my first contraction. I was very excited and they were coming about every 20 mins. I got up that day but then they slowed right down and were very irregular, i would have one, then another after 16 mins, then 8 mins, then 10 mins. I had a consultant appointment on the Wednesday and my cervix was lower but still closed so they did a sweep. Contractions were still irregular during the day so we went to the cinema to watch Harry Potter! Wednesday night at 3am contractions were every 10 mins until 7am when they would become irregular again. This happened Thrusday and Friday too!
Throughout the day on Saturday the contractions started getting stronger but they were still irregular. By about 11pm they were coming every 6-8 minutes so i called the hospital and they told me to go in but they might send me home if i wasn't progressed enough.  Well on the way to the hospital they started slowing down again so i thought when i got there they would tell me to go home! Got to the hospital about 12:30am Sunday morning and was examined and they told me i was 5-6cm dilated.  I asked for an epidural which i got about an hour later. It took them 45 mins to get the epidural in place and they were about to give up but im so glad they didnt! I would totally recommend the epidural! After 5 nights of no sleep i slept through the rest of my labour!!!

After the epidural my contractions were still irregular and they checked me after a few hours and i was still only 6cm so they gave me a hormone drip to strengthen and regulate the contractions. It didnt really work but it caused the baby's heart rate to drop.  They examined me a few hours later and i was still only 6cm so they decided to break my waters.  After they did this they examined me again and i had gone down to 4cm!!!  They said they wouldn't check me again until i was having strong regular contractions for 6 hours.

Well a few hours later i started to feel pressure like i needed the toilet. I told the midwife and she examined me and told me i was 10cm! They had already prepped me for theatre in case i needed a c-section because of her heart rate. They told me to wait an hour as she was still high up before i started pushing but i couldnt stop myself from pushing. At about 2:10pm the Dr came in and i started pushing. He said i was doing well but the baby was still high and they wanted to use forceps in surgery.

Off i went to theatre, sleeping between pushes!!! Millie Isabella Daisie was finally born on 24th July at 3:08pm weighing 6lb 11oz and 21.5 inches long after 2 pushes with the help of forceps. She didn't cry at all and she was born with her eyes open and was so alert.

We had a scare with her when she was 4 days old and she had lost quite a bit of weight but after a few days in hospital and topping up her breast feeds with formula we were let home when she had put weight on.  She is doing well now and now weight 7.5lbs!

My birth experience was fantastic after the epidural. After 5 days 11 hours and 4 mins of labour (allbeit slow labour but never the less 5 sleepless nights!) it was totally worth it!
