Breastfeeding

So I am debating breastfeeding with this guy if I am able (I was not able to with my first because my milk never came in) but when it all comes down to it, I think it will depend on the restrictions I have to put on myself to do so. Caffeine for one. I do not drink coffee, but I have to have my one cup of soda a day or you really will not like me. Can any of you girls tell me about any other bf restrictions???

My son has grown out of it now. I don't give him too much milk during the day still though. He has one big sippy cup in the morning and the rest of the day it's water. He will eat dairy though, yogurt, cheese etc. I'm so happy he grew out of it!!
If I have problems with this new born, then I'll know right away! I can't imagine how I survived through that. Having a colicky baby has to be the worst thing. I would sit there and cry right with him. And then sometimes he would just absolutely fuss at my breast even though he was hungry. Poor thing. It was hell!

I think the dairy allergy most kids grow out of. My sisters son did and she had the same thing with the no dairy while she was breastfeeding him. She is still breastfeeding her other son at 14 months!! but she hasnt given him cows milk yet I dont think.

Heather that is the exact same thing my sister went thru with her son with the screaming all the time and upset tummy due to the dairy. Her friends daughter had the same thing. Hoping I dont have that because oh my I love milk!!!!!

Yeah my daughter could not have anything with lacto in it until she was over a year old. For some reason it just always made her sick and unable to use the restroom so I went to lacto free formulas with her and it did miracles. I'm glad she got over it though because now days she loves her milk in the morning!

I breastfed my son until he was 11 months. You have to stay away from the obvious like alcohol and certain medications and such but caffine I would say is fine in moderation just like in pregnancy.
When my son was 4 months old I restricted myself from dairy because he was VERY colicky and something was wrong. He was writhing in pain all the time and my god the screaming. I quit dairy cold turkey and he was a completely different baby! Talk about restriction!! lol it was completely worth it. Another good thing that came out of it was that I had less sinus problems afterward too. So I only have dairy in moderation now too.

My sister still had some caffeine. I would talk to your dr about it or a lactation consultant to see what they say. They will be able to offer the most help. You might actually be able to talk to one before going to the hospital because the hospitals normally have 1 or 2 there during the weeks.
