How do you pick a good obgyn?

I don't want to see my regular doctor first to get a referral because he's like an old man, a family friend, and I babysit his grandkids... that makes me uncomfortable! I want to see a woman for my prenatal care. How do I know who is a good obgyn in my area? Can I just call their office and set up an appointment without talking to my usual doctor? I'm 9 weeks pregnant.

I do believe you must be referred by your primary physician, that's what mine told me. You can find an ob/gyn that accepts your insurance and tell your doc who you'd like to be referred to. I found mine through my insurance's website. I googled the names of a list I made to find reviews from people about the ob/gyn's performance. Specify to your doc that you only need an appointment to be referred to an ob/gyn and they should only test to "ensure" you're pregnant (although you already know). They need to test themselves in order to make the referral. Do your research so you're prepared to give your doc your preferred ob/gyn's info. Good luck!

Yes you can without seeing your normal doc also you can set up a meeting to meet with them before you start your care so you can get an idea if you like them or not:) good luck

You can call your hospital nearby they typically have lists of docs who have businesses there or you can google it, find out docs and then Google them, typically there are reviews
