I just googled it, I guess some states vary. Illinois offers no leave. But you can use the federal FMLA which is 12 weeks unpaid leave as long as your company is at least 60 employees.
CasandraCarson is that just California? I have never heard of paid leave for dads. My husband and I live in Chicago. We can take off as much time as we want because we are both independent contractors. He is a driver and I am a dentist, but neither of us gets paid a penny while we are off.
He may get to take time off depending how the company is set up, but if he wants paid leave he can use vacation and sick time if he is lucky enough to get those, or he can move out of the states. Sweden perhaps?
Fmla is thru the state, all dad's can have 6 weeks at 55% paid ... Go to edd.ca.gov
I think father's are allowed to take FMLA leave but I'm not certain on that. you'd have to check with their company. My husband's company is small and therefore doesn't have to follow fmla. Luckily he had vacation time he can take and will have 3 weeks off when the baby is born.
