Heartbeat and then no heartbeat

Hi,

I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks and 6 days and we saw the heartbeat at 74.  The tech said if I came in an hour earlier, we might not have seen it.  Everyone congratulated me and I was so happy!  Yesterday, I went in for another ultrasound, they found no heartbeat.  The whole experience was just awful.  I won't go into why the nurses and the doctor made it so unpleasant.  My doc told me that I can either have a D & C on Thursday or opt to wait it out.  The thing is I still have all the symptoms of pregnancy.  They haven't gone away.  So, I'm really confused. Hurt. Sad.

I have a tilted uterus and I've read that there are very similar stories like mine where they've been misdiagnosed.  If I was bleeding or cramping hard I would wholeheartedly believe my doc but I'm not. I think at this point, I am going to wait it out.  Going for the D & C seems rushing.

Any words of wisdom would be welcomed...  thank you.

hi, so sorry for your loss. I went through a miscarriage myself last week and had to have a d&c on saturday, I am still recovering from it.. the procedure itself was painless overall..
But emotionally, it feels like we are back to where we started from, we need to have so much of faith and strength to try again..
I would be praying for you as I do for myself..  good luck..

Thank you pud...  I did get a second opinion and it was confirmed that my HCG level is declining, consistent with a miscarriage.  I have a D & C scheduled for Wednesday.  It's been two weeks and still no bleeding but lots of cramping.  I was willing to miscarry naturally but it's not happening.  The doc is worried that I may hemorrhage because it's been so long.

For two months, my husband and I welcomed our pregnancy with all our hearts.  The experience was amazing.   I am now certain and ready to let go...  We are devastated but also hopeful that we will have a beautiful baby in the near future.

Thank you all... xxxxxxxxoo

i went through a miscarriage two years ago and had severe pain and bleeding, my advice is dont give up and go with how you feel, if your not bleeding or cramping then wait a lil longer and go bk to have another scan and second opinion. that way if it is still bad news at least you can say you didnt give up. good luck.xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thank you.  I am an emotional wreck.  I guess there is no avoiding it.  I have an appointment with another doctor tomorrow for a second opinion and for another ultrasound.  Still no symptoms of a miscarriage except for an occasional lower back pain.  Either way I need closure.

Frances, my second u/s was at 8 weeks and 2 days.

Keeping it real...

I'm so sorry.  How many weeks were you when they did the second u/s?  Maybe follow up with another u/s to be sure.

I agree, you do not need to rush into the D&C...wait until you are sure about it.  I am so sorry that they did not see the heartbeat thsi time.  It is so devastating.  I was carrying two and one was smaller than the other.  We saw the smaller one's heart beat at 6 weeks 5 days but could nto hear it just yet like the other one.  Then at my 8 weeks u/s, they could not find a heart beat for the second one.  I prayed for a miracle but we had another ultrasound 5 dasys later and still no heart beat so we definitely lost one of the babies.  I am so sorry you are going through this.
