When can I start buying baby food?

When do I need to start buying baby food? I'm 2 weeks away from being 5 months pregnant and I'm seeing that it's low and with this crazy economy, I don't want it to go up in price and I have none... Let me know June '10 moms! :-)

I would wait cause I am not sure on the self life and a new study says not to give them baby food till 6 months, not even cereal. THey say their digestive tracts are not mature enough and that after a 10 year study they found that they ahvea a higher risk of being obese, and diabetes. It was on the American Baby magazine this last month is wher I think I read it.
Whent eh baby is born I would stock up on coupons and by them when they are on sale where ever witha coupon. Also lots of groceries ahv ethe super saver and you earn points then you can use them also. My sister never paid for any baby food and used all the above, she was awsome and it worked. Oh yeah sometimes you can get coupons that have a year experation date so you can look for those now. Ther are coupon site online that you go on and print them out. Awsome, just a thought. Oh and you don;t know you caould buy something that they end up ahveing an allerdy to or don;t like. My pediatrician says to introduce veggies first one at a time
Squash
Sweet potatoes
carrots
the introduce
pears
apples
bananas
prunes
never give them green beans or mixed food till they are over a year and doing fine.

Just what I heard but ask you pediatrician and make your desision for you and your baby of course:)

Oh an rice cereal first and wait one week in between each one to make sure there are no allergies or sensitivities

i dont know what the shelf life is in baby foods but the prices dont change that often.  its recommended you dont feed babies solids till 6 months anyway.

i wouldnt buy too many diapers, even if a dr tries to guess the weight you dont know exactly what size they will be in and for how long.  those newborn diapers are usually outgrown by most babies quickly.

congrats it is so much fun to shop for babies, especially when you know to buy pink or blue!!

congrats to both of you!!

I am also 18 weeks pregnant..with Identical twins and I am too afraid to buy things just yet.. I did however buy some diapers... For the most part baby food prices don't usually change so I would hold off... You wont need if for like 9 more months anyways.. If you do want to start buying for the baby I woul say buy diapers
