Cravings?

I started with orange juice, then moved onto really salty foods like movie popcorn - without butter, I just want the salt - and french bread.  It's kind of hilarious to me because I always said if I got pregnant I would start demanding brownie sundaes just because I could, but I haven't wanted ice cream or sweet stuff (normally my favorite) at all. So what are you craving?

It's interesting how some of these cravings are complete opposite of what we would normally want, while some of them seem like just stronger urges for what we already like. I have the cereal/milk craving sometimes, figure I need the calcium.  Do think I'm going to take a funny picture of me with a ridiculously large bowl of popcorn stuffing my face to show this little one...should be hilarious one day. :)

Oh I hadn't heard anything about the lunch meat...I take sandwiches to work for lunch. Over the weekend I was craving fresh hot roasted turkey, so I chucked $15 on a nice size breast but didn't get it cooked until last night.

Peanut butter and bacon, huh? That's definitely a pregnancy craving lol. You should take a picture of it and put it in your baby book so you can show your little one some of the odd things he made you do. :)

Peanut butter and bacon sandwich, never in my life have I ever had or heard of one but I was eating some peanut butter toast the other day and out of nowhere bacon sounded soooo good on it, on the other hand I normally can't get enough Mexican food typically my favorite!! However, I can't stomach it these days :(

I think we've all probably had that "oops" moment but I'm sure you'll be fine. Sending good wishes to you and your little one. :)

medhelp will star out any website you put in.

When I had my first baby nothing was even said about lunch meats at all, I practically lived on them.  Before I went to my first appt I had some pre-packaged ham and I heated it up.  I haven't had any at all since I went, I probably won't even bother.  I was told not to eat the deli cut even if it was heated up.

Yesterday my SIL had a cheese plate out, and there was some kind of fresh mozzarella with another cheese, and I ate it on crackers before dinner.  It was so good, I never eat soft cheese so I wasn't even thinking about it while I ate it.  I can only keep my fingers crossed I don't get sick.  The 3rd trimester seems to be the biggest danger time since the immune system is the most suppressed.

That first one is the American Pregnancy website...medhelp doesn't like me typing it in for some reason. Hopefully this will work:

I was trying to find an answer to this online. Most of it says probably good to heat up packaged meat too because there's a chance it could get contaminated after cooking and before packaging.  The chance would be pretty small, but the risk is big if you get this listeria thing...I think it's kind of better-safe-than-sorry kind of advice. A couple of sources on this:

Yeah I was given totally different info about the packaged deli meat...I've been sticking with grilled cheese and pb&j...or hot sandwiches.

I was told the kind we buy in a package is ok because it has preservatives, and they don't allow the listeria bacteria to grow, but not even to eat the meat fresh from the deli heated.  It's funny how every Dr. is different.  I was happy to hear I could eat the packaged meat because I've been craving Italian subs.

@Mandicole: That's how I feel about seafood (gag! lol)...Be careful with the lunch meat, not sure if you know this but I've been told we shouldn't eat it unless it's hot. That's true for both deli meat as well as the kind you buy in the package.

I crave alot of cold cold fruit. I'm thinking about putting it in the freezer and then eating it. I also am having problems with meat, I have been craving honey ham with pineapples. Any other type of meat just turns my stomache. I can't stand the smell of chicken or seafood. It's amazing how much everything changes while your pregnant. Strawberry lime gum from trident is so amazing I can't get enough!

Yeah I can't eat spicy or greasy foods, and no seafood...but I've never liked those things, so pregnancy seems to have just made those aversions worse.

My appetite has not changed much, however, there are foods I have cutout due to nausea. I had to cut out on any type of beans which is something I never have problem eating. I have also cut down on some meats, but only if they are from certain restraunts. I can't eat tacos if I don't make them or if I don't go with a long time friend who sells tacos. I do notice I have a craving for chocolate cake, which I can't stand when I'm not pregnant. I crave a lot of sweet food and cold fruits and drinks with lots of ice.  Other than that, my cravings are the normal!!

I am not a big salt eater either, but I have been salting my food a little more.  Not necessarily wanting saltier foods though.  With my first I craved McDonald's french fries.

I usually eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, but now I am just wanting them more.  I don't think with this pregnancy it's a change from my normal, but more of an enhanced want.  I can't tolerate chicken or ground beef, and I usually have no problem with meat.

The only things I have been eating that I wouldn't eat before are hot sausage and raw tomatoes.  I really hate sausage so I can't imagine why I am eating it all of a sudden, especially with the meat aversion I'm having.

Are they different - even opposite - tastes than you had before you were pregnant? I used to be really anti-salt, always complained that my mother used too much, and would never put extra salt on my food. Now I pick up the smell of movie-style popcorn at target and I'll literally turn around to go get some.

chocolate milk and butternut squash.

I'm having a hard time with meat, except I'd really like to have an Italian sub.  Kind of sad we can't eat the deli meat without it being heated up.
