balloon to dilate cervix???

Has anyone heard of a balloon to dilate the cervix? ended up going in tonite to hospital with strong contractions only to be told i was 1cm dilated.i was asked to come in sunday where bubs will be monitored again n if im still only 1cm the doctor will dilate the cervix using a balloon technique so they can break my water before inducing.

Thanks ive read up on it but im still a bit worried..oh well i go in in 2hrs so ill find out soon enuf :) .....

I was going to have that done with my first, but they opted not to since I tested positive for group b strep.  I believe they use a foley catheter and it is injected with saline at the bulb end.  It is supposed to open the cervix further, but I don't know how successful it is.
