Breastfeeding

28 weeks today
Does anyone plan to brestfeed?
I pretty sure I'm going to if not I'm going to def pump feed, I've done a lot of research and it's proven to be better.
So just curious who else is going to brestfeed!

most health insurance plans only cover a manual pump. i know kaiser and blue shield does.

with my first pregnancy, i got a free manual pump through my insurance but i never bothered using it. its too much work. also, this time around, a friend lend me her dual pump and for sanitary reasons, i replaced all the accessories. i would save half the time pumping.

good luck!

Before anyone buys a pump check with your insurance company. Most will provide you with a new breastpumo after the baby is born. Breastfeeding is amazing. I did it for 18 months with my daughter and now with my son too.

I was not able to get my son to latch on (5 years ago) but I'm going to try again this time or just pump for him. I had a hand pump last time but I dried up after 6 Weeks. One of my friends said the hand pump might have caused that because you can't get all of the milk out quick enough and since it takes so long you don't keep on a good schedule....I'm going to buy a pump and hopefully that will help me keep it up longer

Either way, if it doesn't work out for you don't let anybody (our yourself) make you feel guilty about it. If you try in the beginning and the baby gets some of the colostrum (the thick honey-like stuff you have before your milk comes in) you are giving you're baby all the antibodies to last him for 6 months.

its better to use an automatic breast bump, you'll finish pumping within 15-20 mins, depending on how much youre producing. also, its not a bad thing to using a second-hand breast bump from a friend/family. You just need to replace the membrane, shield, tube, and etc. That way you'll save on buying a brand new one.

Yeah its supposed to be good to breastfeed and pump because it makes more milk come in? That's what I read anyway. I can't wait <3

I want you breast feed and pump. I will probably buy the manual one. I see some times people selling their used pumps and to me that's just gross

I will definitely be nursing! This is my third baby and I wasn't able to with my first, but was with my second and loved every minute of it! The most amazing bonding time! It was so hard to ween him off when I had to return to work... I am so excited to be able to go thru that again with my daughter!

I really want to this time. I tried with my son and gave up right before my milk came in. I regret not giving it a better shot or at least pumping. That was 6 years ago and I'm finsing this time around there is a lot of help out there.

i also plan to nurse/pump as much and as long as possible. my little girl was breastfed for the first year with a combination of baby formula during the second half of the year. also right after delivery, it took about 4 days to start lactating so don't stress yourself out if you're not lactating before that time, my OB says newborns don't have to eat much during that period.
