Thanks everyone ! You all were very helpful (:
They don't want you to actually smoke, though because the baby could have asthma problems but that's about it.
I believe the reason they tell you not to go cold turkey is because the baby believe it or not will have withdrawals. That's why it's better to slowly quit. It will be healthier for you to eventually quit and certainly best for the baby not to smoke around them because it is harmful to their fragile lungs.
my friend went to amsterdam, early in her pregnancy, but she didn't know she was pregnant, so she smoked a lot, the doctor said its okay, and she had a healthy baby, who is now 8 months :)
i've been smoking with my baby, and baby was 3kg and 400g...so not a low birth weight...he is perfectly healthy 9 month old :))
i never quit smoking, just smoked less, only when felt like it... on some days i had only one or three cigs a day, on some days about 15 cigs a day.... its up to you, its just important to take your vitamins and have a good diet, and it'll be okay :)
I'm also a smoker, trying to quit now and I'm 7weeks, my doctor told me the same to quit slowly instead of cold turkey. From everything I've heard cigarettes will cause a low birth weight. As far as weed I've never heard of it having a negative affect on a baby. I'm not 100% sure about it but all my friends who smoked pot while pregnant have perfectly healthy babies. Hope this was helpful to you and congratulations!!
