Depression during pregnancy

I suffer from depression and anxiety, as soon as I found out I was pregnant I stopped taking all my medications. I was doing ok the first few weeks I am now 14 weeks 6days and my depression is getting bad again. I was told that the dr can put me on a low dosage of depressant meds but I dont want it to affect the baby in any way. Is anyone else suffering from this problem?

Wow you girls are amazing for talking about this...I to suffer from anxiety and depression and since getting pregnant stopped taking my meds...I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and have been in and out of the hospital due to blood clots in my leg which is very stressful! This is my 3rd pregnancy and its been a roller coaster ride so far and now I have to give myself blood thinner shots twice a day...trying very hard to stay positive since the baby is doing great but I feel very alone at times and have no family close by so it's hard...to top things off I have two boy's and Christmas is basically here and with all my health problems I've been on bedrest and can't work so no money :-( when it rains it pours but I will get through this somehow...I'm a single mom but luckily my boyfriend and his parents have stepped in to help me and are keeping me afloat for now...good luck with your pregnancies girls we can all do this depression and anxiety or not we are strong women and will get through

Well thats good to know, snuffy I would check through your insurance! Therapy went well, helped A LOT I will be going once a week, and medication wise they said no unless it gets worse and the dr never heard of sam-e so he suggested not to take it. Chaarjames I think that just makes it worst ever I fall bad into my depression I do the same thing I barely go out and I feel like I just fall harder. Try to get out more even if its for a walk.

I have suffered from anxiety and depression for about five years now but also have stooped my meds, I'm in the same position as you. Not knowingwwhat to do. I have been offered therapy. So hopefully that helps as the anxiety is in bearable I don't even go out the house because I feel like everyone is talking about me and judging me. Lol I'm 20 an 15weeks x your not alone

Oh that's great you'll get to see a therapist! I really wish I could afford one right now.  And yes let me know what they say about that medication- I've never heard of it.

Last Friday I coudnt deal with it anymore I got a appt today to start seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist. I also found some over the counter natural medication called sam-e so I have to see how safe is it to take during pregnancy. I will let you know what they say

Thanks, yes I'm surprised people didn't have any more input. I kept checking back on this post, hoping there would be a number of people who have dealt with this and would have more to say. Let me know what you decide to do after talking to your doctor :)

Thanks thats the same exact way I feel, I just question myself if it can just be my hormones. I have a dr appt coming soon I will talk to him and see what is his suggestion. Please let me know how your pregnancy goes, as I can see not many women go through this or just do not talk about it.

Also, as far as I understand, the first trimester is when these kinds of meds are the most risky.  Since you're past that, that may give some reassurance.

I also suffer from anxiety and depression and am now off of my medications because of this pregnancy. You're well-being is super important and women on anti-depressants deliver healthy babies all the time. Before i got pregnant, i talked with my psychiatrist about which meds i absolutely needed to get off of (the anti-anxiety meds are a big no-no) if i was thinking about conceiving, and most of mine would technically be fine to take through the whole pregnancy. I decided to get off them anyway for various reasons, and i honestly haven't decided if it was for the best or not. My ob told me if
depression becomes a problem, she will definitely prescribe something for me. I understand the concern, though, it's a tough decision! For me, with this being my first experience with pregnancy, I just don't know if what I'm feeling is normal pregnancy hormones or if my depression is getting really bad...
